Any problems with filing then updating white books?

My wife's son wants to come to US. We will file for him as soon as possible as he is very close to 18.

We filed for him back in 2008, but his father would not allow him to come.

 

I have step-son's birth certificate (White book) from 2008 and copy of wife's birth certificate form 2004. I assume both of these need to be updated for interview at consulate. We are having a slight delay getting these.

 

I was thinking go ahead and file with what we have. This gets us a priority date and starts the process for scheduling interview. Then update these as soon as possible before the interview. Just want to get this started as stepson will turn 18 in August.

 

This should work right? Any one see any problems with doing this?

There is no expiration on the birth certificates.

 

I don't think you'd have a problem with the older formats - they would send you an RFE, if so. You may want to have the newer certificates on hand at the interview, however.
