People in nine cities covered by "moon insurance" purchased from China's largest online shopping platform Taobao will be compensated for not being able to see the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival on Thursday, Chinese media reported on Saturday.

Among the cities where the moon wasn't visible were Xi'an, Shaanxi Province; Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province; and Xining, Qinghai Province.

Others insured in 32 cities - including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, Guangdong Province - won't be compensated because the moon was visible, the Beijing Evening News reported.
