Applying for K1 before proposal?

I was wondering the impact of having the letter of intent signed but not having the actual proposal would affect the K1 application for a Chinese citizen? Was hoping to get a head start on the paperwork since I won't be able to get a chance to get to China until the Fall.

A formal proposal is not required to file the I-129F, the requirement is having met in person sometime in the past 2 years, and a signed letter of intent, either a joint letter or two letters one from petitioner and one from benificiary.

You could propose by email and simply attach a printout of the reply with the petition if you like.

Thanks for the reply! I'd like to actually do the proposal in person, so it is good to know that all I need is the letter of intent. My only concern left is, would this negatively affect the interview process? Not sure if this would be viewed negatively.

No. I proposed to my wife in person, but there is no documented evidence of this. All they request and need is a signed letter of intent.
