B1 or B1/B2---both are ok. Strictly speaking, it belongs to B2. But they cannot be clearly seperated. No one cares about it.

 

From the Dept. of State

 

"Often, the B-1 and B-2 visas are combined and issued as one visa: the B-1/B-2."

 

THAT is immaterial when you are asked which type of visa you are applying for on the DS-160 -

If you still prefer to go by the classification of the two, it is recommended that you apply for the category B2. For anyone whose trip falls into any of these categories: sightseeing, visiting family or friends, medical treatment, participation in social, sports or cultural events, or a recreational course (which does not count as credits towards degree), B2 is the option. If their trip overlaps the two categories (B1 for business and B2 for reasons specified above), you can apply for a combination of the two visas.
