It was fun to see some of my luthier friends and see what everyone is building. I can only aspire to the craftsmanship I see there. It makes the guitar I'm building seem amateurish. A few made me think of you guys. Charles and Ronny I'm sure will appreciate the electric bass/six string guitar. I found it interesting that he was able to combine the two by slanting the frets in order to accommodate the longer scale length needed for the bass half.

The abalone inlay in the fretboard of this archtop was incredible.

I have no idea what this or how to play it but it looks very cool.

This matched set made by the famous luthier Mike Doolin was very cool.

All in all I had a great time and bought a spectacular bear claw spruce top for a future guitar.

Such beautiful works of art. I just can't help but wonder how this guitar would be received in the show...

I'll bet money that when Willie dies this will be one of the most collectible guitars in history.

There's some crazy irony for you luthiers in knowing that. I suppose an instrument can be well built and pretty, but if it ain't being played and it's character can't be found then its beauty and soul will never be known.

Those were some great pics, Carl. I appreciate you posting them for us to see. They have a great guitar show up in Nashville every year and from what I hear you see about as many music celebs a guitars. I have never been because it costs a fortune to get in, but I would love to check it out some time.

This one only costs $3.00 to get in and has some of the top luthiers in the country. Charles Fox, Robert Steinegger, Mike Doolin just to name a few.

I think I've seen the bottom instrument or something that looks a lot like it 0played at Renaissance fairs. But I was too busy staring at some of those busty buxom wenches falling out of their blouses to really notice too much

Very interesting Carl. Just recently I had a very vivid dream about a bass and sixstring made together. In our shows, I am always swapping back and forth between the two which gets to be a pain. A double neck is just too heavy to be wearing for 3 non-stop hours. The idea I had was using 6 regular guitar strings (to keep the fretboard narrow enough to play) but have pickups and an electronic device that would make the bottom 4 strings sound like a bass. Wanna make one for me? :jump:

Years ago I had a Rickenbacker 481 guitar with slanted frets. It was really a nice axe.

What occurred to me is none of the frets would be where you would be used to.I have a friend ho builds electrics. I'll ask him about your pickup idea.
