warpedbored
Today I made my annual trek to the Marylhurst University handmade musical instrument show. Guitar heavenhttp://oi40.tinypic.com/8yaqvq.jpg It was fun to see some of my luthier friends and see what everyone is building. I can only aspire to the craftsmanship I see there. It makes the guitar I'm building seem amateurish. A few made me think of you guys. Charles and Ronny I'm sure will appreciate the electric bass/six string guitar. I found it interesting that he was able to combine the two by slanting the frets in order to accommodate the longer scale length needed for the bass half. http://oi39.tinypic.com/kvt34.jpghttp://oi42.tinypic.com/32zlwu1.jpg The abalone inlay in the fretboard of this archtop was incredible.http://oi39.tinypic.com/25inpe8.jpghttp://oi44.tinypic.com/bldue.jpg Link to comment
warpedbored
My mentor Robert Steinegger brought out his new 12 fret to the body copy of a 1932 Martin D2 http://oi42.tinypic.com/ndus6.jpg This woman builds harps and plays them as good as they lookhttp://oi44.tinypic.com/30sg86e.jpg I have no idea what this or how to play it but it looks very cool.http://oi44.tinypic.com/2cibs51.jpg Link to comment
warpedbored
This matched set made by the famous luthier Mike Doolin was very cool.http://oi41.tinypic.com/2956a15.jpg All in all I had a great time and bought a spectacular bear claw spruce top for a future guitar. Link to comment
Dennis143
Such beautiful works of art. I just can't help but wonder how this guitar would be received in the show...http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2189/1584649692_e843743b10.jpg 1 Link to comment

There's some crazy irony for you luthiers in knowing that. I suppose an instrument can be well built and pretty, but if it ain't being played and it's character can't be found then its beauty and soul will never be known. But I was too busy staring at some of those busty buxom wenches falling out of their blouses to really notice too much Link to comment

Just recently I had a very vivid dream about a bass and sixstring made together. In our shows, I am always swapping back and forth between the two which gets to be a pain. A double neck is just too heavy to be wearing for 3 non-stop hours. The idea I had was using 6 regular guitar strings (to keep the fretboard narrow enough to play) but have pickups and an electronic device that would make the bottom 4 strings sound like a bass. Wanna make one for me? Years ago I had a Rickenbacker 481 guitar with slanted frets. It was really a nice axe. Edited April 30, 2013 by chilton747 (see edit history) 1 Link to comment

What occurred to me is none of the frets would be where you would be used to.I have a friend ho builds electrics. I'll ask him about your pickup idea. Link to comment
