jonathantwu
In California, do you get a DL that expires on the date of the 2 year green card expiration? Then what to do while applying for the condition removal? My wife just passed her test, I have not seen her official DL yet. I am praying not to have to go to the DMV ever! I am praying not to have to go to the DMV ever! They probably will set it to expire same date as the 2 year green-card, and may give you problems if you try extending using the extension letter, if this happens, I would visit USCIS field office and get an I-551 stamp in passport, and then visit DMV showing them the 1 year I-551 stamp. dnoblett
Made me look some more, with the controversy over California issuing driver's license to undocumented aliens, you would think they would have no issues with giving drivers license to a legal resident that has an expired green card. http://driveca.org/bill-ab60/ 1. What is an AB 60 driver’s license? Governor Brown signed AB 60 into law in 2013, directing the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to issue an original driver’s license to any California resident who is eligible for a driver’s license, regardless of immigration status. An applicant who does not have proof of lawful presence can receive an AB 60 license. An AB 60 license will have a visible distinguishing feature and cannot be used for certain federal purposes, such as to enter restricted areas of federal facilities. AB 60 driver’s licenses are available since January 2nd, 2015. I suspect since undocumented aliens do not have to show legal presence for an AB-60 license, that the DMV will probably set the DL to expire in 5 years, or will accept the I-751 extension letter as proof enough to extend. jonathantwu
Well, that will make too much sense for government work. I suspect she will get a limited-term DL expiring in one year while the undocumented zipping around with their DL. After showing the letter we get another year extension and start it all over again after that one. Joy! Edited June 22, 2015 by jonathantwu (see edit history) Link to comment
