My Wife's Ride On Amtrak

My wife from time to time travels down to NYC via Amtrak, went down there Tuesday, and returned last night with scheduled arrival at 8:12pm into the Rochester station, I tend to monitor the train on this site: http://www.dixielandsoftware.com/Amtrak/status/StatusMaps/ it showed leaving Syracuse about a minute late so I left the house at about 7:45 so I could stop to pick up something before heading to the station to pick her up.

On my drive to the station she shoots me a message that it felt like the train hit something and then stopped.

I get to the station and monitor her progress via "Where is my iPhone" APP.

So we chatted a while, and I started thinking of driving to the crash site it was taking so long, but figured I would get half way there and the train would start moving again. Crash site was 35 min drive from the station.

Eventually Amtrak hired a bus to run out there and bring the Rochester passengers to the station.

A Fairport man who drove onto railroad tracks in Wayne County Thursday night was ticketed after an Amtrak train struck the man’s car.

No one was injured when the westbound train struck the car near Quaker Road in Macedon just before 8 p.m., said Macedon Police Chief John Colella. The car was destroyed and the railroad tracks were closed for nearly five hours after the crash,

Daniel Drake, 38, was issued a ticket for failure to keep right, Colella said. It appeared that Drake became disoriented while driving, left the roadway and drove onto the tracks, where his car became stuck, according to Macedon police.

Drake and a passenger exited the car shortly before it was struck, Colella said.

Passengers on the disabled train were bussed to Rochester, he said. The damaged train was repaired and moved to Rochester early Friday morning, according to police.

Train traffic resumed at 12:40 a.m. Friday.

Well, I'm gonna have to ask a dumb question.

 

How the hail does an idiot get more than 5 feet on a railroad track and not realize to put the dang car in reverse?

 

Did he think the railroad track was gonna turn into the roadway again if he went far enough?

 

Some people are suckin' up perfectly good oxygen....his supply should be shut off....or maybe it was, a long time ago.....lol And they said he got disoriented? Now, that's rich.
