Dewayne
Does anyone know if one can apply for a state ID if the green card has expired? Link to comment
Steve in USA
In Washington State you can get either a state ID or driver's license without proof of US citizenship. Only requires proof of Washington State residence. http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/idproof.html Edited July 25, 2012 by Steve in USA (see edit history) Link to comment
dnoblett
Really a state by state thing, most states need SSN and evidence of lawful presence as well as residence.SSNValid green-card (Note lawful permanent residence does not end when a card expires only when USCIS starts deportation proceedings)Removal of conditions I-751 extension letter serves as evidence of lawful permanent residency for an additional year.If expired 10 year card, then I-90 receipt letter will serve as an extension letter until new green-card arrives. If state has issues with I-751 or I-90 receipt letter then do an info pass appointment to USCIS office and get an I-551 stamp in passport to prove residency.Mail or other document showing name and address should serve as proof of state residency.
