RobertH
If you google China sim card, many places come up that say you can buy a card from them and still get calls on your local (USA) number. Anyone ever use these? Or what is the best way to have text msging and internet access while in China. Buy a card once we get there or buy one of these?http://www.brightroam.com/China-SIM-Card-P31C0.aspx?source=p&gclid=CIqyxeHe_q8CFSoZQgod60iTUghttp://www.holidayphone.com/payg-prepaid-sim-card-china.html?gclid=COqpseve_q8CFXQeQgodt1DlUAhttp://www.cellularabroad.com/packages-china.html?gclid=CI-Ooffe_q8CFQxshwodM2FlqgI have spoken to Verizon and they said either phone we have (Razor Maxx or the Thunderbolt) would work on Chinese networks. danb
Robert, I would check with Verizon again. According to the first link you posted it states: In North America, AT&T, T-Mobile, Rogers Wireless and Fido are the main GSM cellular carriers. If you have a cell phone from Verizon, Sprint Nextel, Bell Mobility or TELUS Mobility your cell phone will not work with our SIM card services because they are CDMA carriers. I don't believe any Verizon cells phones will accept sims cards. They may be telling you that you can use your verizon phone with an international rate. But that will probably be expensive.Whatever phone that you do use , will need to be unlocked. I have an AT&T phone and have never had a problem getting my phones unlocked except for this time. It has been yes..no..yes..no.......later that my phone is or could be unlocked. Thru AT&T it sounds like no or maybe later is the correct answer. When I got to China I looked into using a third party unlocking party but for my phone it was going to be 45 dollars . I thought that was too much money for the amount of time that I was going to be here. I wished I had brought my old smart phone with me. Good luck. Randy W
Do SIM Cards Work on CDMA Networks? - yes The Chinese networks also support these phones (and have available CDMA SIM cards) Edited May 15, 2012 by Randy W (see edit history)
Randy W
But danb is correct - the SIM cards look identical, but will not interchange between the CDMA and GSM phones. There are also different sizes of SIM cards, so make sure you get the right one.
