I-130 Approved, Address Wrong

Hello Everyone,

 

I got an email yesterday saying that my I-130 had been approved, and that information about the next step would be sent to me. The problem is that the mailing address for my wife is unusable. Will they send the information to my mailing address or hers?

 

Right now I'm a resident of China, and when I submitted the I-130 I used our apartment address on the application, which does not have a working mailbox. When they sent a request for more evidence I had to call and change it to my US mailing address, which is fine, but the address listed for my wife is still unusable.

 

So will they be sending information about the next step to her or to me? If it's to me, is there any reason to change her address in the future to a place where she can get mail? If it's to her, would I call USCIS or the NVC to clear things up.

What comes next you will find here, your spouse the beneficiary can email a DS-3032 specifying you at the agent and on this use the correct address, as well on the DS-230 later.

 

You can also contact NVC and later DOS to confirm correct address as well as the consulate when they eventually get the case.

One more question, how is the NVC case number received? Will I receive it by email, at my US mailing address, or do I have to call the NVC with my CIS case number to receive it?

Let me step back slightly, You filed the petition to USCIS in states, or to Beijing or Guangzhou?

 

If filed in states you will deal with NVC, you can call or email them a week or so after getting the approval, and get GUZ case number.

If filed at consulate in China, there will not be any NVC process, Guangzhou will contact you.

Thanks for the information. I filed in the States because the Embassy I contacted said that there has been a change, and that all I-130s must go through the Chicago lockbox, and DCF was no longer possible.

Sounded like you dealt with the wrong person at embassy or consulate, depending where you live you would visit either the DHS office located in Guangzhou, or Beijing and turn in the I-130 there. DCF is still an option for those who can show at least 6 months residency in China.

If you do the 'agent' form and electronic processing, you will get all the relevant paperwork from NVC until the interview. The electronic process was meant to avoid any physical mailing...
