TexasBuzzy Posted March 12, 2012 Report Share Posted March 12, 2012 In 2008, my wife and I met in Shanghai and have been together ever since. On March 1st this year, we got married. My American family really wants to meet my wife and she also wants to visit my family in America. I've been living and working in China since 2003 as a teacher/consultant. She stopped working in 2008 when we began living together. Although my wife doesn't work, she owns a home in Shanghai and has a nice bank account. We have no intentions of her immigrating to America at this point because we have a comfortable life in China and it's easy for me to find work here. I just want to know if we would be rejected for her B2 Visa because she doesn't have a job or for some other reason? How to proceed? Link to comment
dnoblett Posted March 12, 2012 Report Share Posted March 12, 2012 Is a fairly common topic.Provide evidence of ties to China, for example your job, get a letter from employer indicating your job status and expectation of your return to work after trip to the USA.Letter indicating travel plans in the states.Deed to apartment.Someone indicated freezing a bank account, with note from bank that deposit will remain frozen while out of country.These are just a few suggestions. Can always just go for it, from the news it sounds like getting B2 to visit the USA has been getting easier. Link to comment
Kyle Posted March 12, 2012 Report Share Posted March 12, 2012 Jingjing received two B2 visas after we were married. Jingjing did freeze her accounts in China (through Citic). Everything that Dan mentioned is good. Some other things you might consider are: A written itinerary outlining your visit to the States. Letters from family members inviting her to visit. If you have a job lined up in Shanghai, a letter from your employer/contract for you would be helpful in showing that the both of are planning to return after your visit. Since she owns property and has a nice nest egg saved up, I think you guys have a good shot, especially if you prove that you're coming back as well. To me, it seems like an easy call. If they say no, then they say no, but I think you have a good shot Link to comment

We can do all of these things except freezing bank accounts because we plan to buy a home while we are in America as an investment. House prices are reasonable now and it's a good investment at this point. Would this create a problem with our trip? Link to comment

That is the purpose of freezing the money so that the government will be reasonably assured that she will come back for it and will not give it up. Anyway it's worth a shot. Remember some have applied for a B2 two or three times before beimg approved so if she is not approved the first time, if it is important enough to her, don't give up. Try again. Larry Got to say again, I would question whether it's possible to draft a legal document that the consulate would consider as legally binding in any way for freezing assets.
