True Blue
I assume you have run a virus checker and everything is OK. If not, stop running any programs and do that first. If you don't have a virus checker you can find a free one on the web like avg http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free. But first be sure to remove any expired trial virus checkers that are still on your computer as virus checkers don't play well with other virus checkers. So if your computer came with a free trial of Norton/Symantec or McCafee or another - that has now expired and you are replacing it with a free virus checker you found on the web then you need to remove that program first, before you download a new virus checker. Also be careful that you download a free virus checker from a reputable site like pcmagazine or something else that checks out or as you don't want to get another virus, do you? If you run the virus checker and remove any viruses and still have problems then check for Malware. Malware I just learned about last year. It is really bad stuff that can really screw up your computer. But it is not "technically a virus" so most virus checkers don't seem to clean it up. A great Malware product that has helped me is available for free here http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html First - Google the terms malware and Malabytes so you understand more about malware. I didn't really do a good job of explaining what it is. And you really need to know about it. [even other people browsing here that don't have this problem should learn about it - as one day you could be infected and your virus checker probably won't protect you.] FWIW: I was a little taken back when this happened to me last year, as I always thought I was protected. This is a great site and shows lots of problems and has guides how to remove them - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ {CASUAL BROWSERS BOOKMARK THIS SITE - it might come in handy one day) Also note you might not be able to download if your computer is extremely infected. You might have to find another computer, download it than then copy to usb drive to transfer to the potentially infected computer by usb drive. Go to another non-infected computer and look up how to clean out malware and I will bet you find some good information. If the computer is not near the potentially infected one, you might need to print out instructions because a computer infected with malware will prevent you from accessing many sites - particularly those that - you guessed it - allow you to download virus checkers or malware removers or give you instructions for fixing virus and malware attacks. I know from experience - it happened to me! the malware can take over your computer while at the same time it makes you think it is running properly and that you have a virus - when you really don't. Then Download the malware remover.Update it to get the latest malware definitions (sort of like a virus checker gets virus definitions each day - Malabytes should prompt you to update the malware definitions).Don't have anything else running and scan your system.Clean out any problems it finds. Let us know if the virus checker found something or if the malware checker found something
