Name change on N-400

Hi

My wife is thinking about change her name during the citizenship application and I am wondering if this will become a big headache? What other government departments need to be notified besides DMV, Social Security after the name change? Many thanks.

I just went through my citizenship and name change.

Basically, everything about you with your name has to be changed.

The SSA is the most important one which allows you to do name change during the Oath Ceremony (It was a big thing for USCIS).

 

Then, you can apply your passport by providing them your court ordered name change form and your newly issued driver's license.

 

I would suggest you to do the DMV first after the oath.

My wife recently applied for her citizenship ... took about 3 wks for them to repond and set up her biometrics appt .... we changed her name on the application and it went through with no problem .... not legal until she swears in ... but it seems pretty easy. the Immigration person she met with at her biometrics gave her all the info she will need including flash cards, a video that shows what to expect during the interveiw and a list of eb=verything she will need to change ... that applies to her.
