Purse stolen in Nanning

Recommended Posts

The wife of a friend of a former CFL member had her purse stolen in Nanning with her green card inside. She called the consulate and they told her she would need a notarized copy of the police report. She took the police report to the notary office in Nanning but they refused to do it for her. Does anyone know of any place in GZ where she could have it done?

A couple of other suggestions -

  1. Write up what she did in trying to get it notarized (even get THAT notarized?). The consulate should accept what is par for the course in China (it's not THEIR country, after all). They do this with the other documents (e.g., non-existent birth certificates)
  2. Go to the American notary at the consulate (yes, she
    can
    get in for an appointment)

Remember that 'notarization' means something different in China

Notarized or simply a notary translation?

Should be able to get a Notary English translation at the notary office, just like getting any other document translated for the visa process.

That's what I thought Dan but apparently when she went to the same place where they do birth certs and single certs they wouldn't do it.

The consulate's job is to help her get out of the country. If she's still running into road blocks, I would have her document her effots as much as she can and then head to the consulate to see what they can do for her. Think American Citizen Services (also for green card holders), rather than the visa departments.
