Changing her perspective

Recommended Posts

Somethings things come along that help you to reassess how you live your life.

My wife has always been, "Let's save money. Want to buy a big house. Don't need to go any where or do any thing. Work Hard and Save."

Recently, my blood test showed an elevated PSA level. For those of you who are not familiar. This is the blood test that screens for prostate cancer.

So my doctor recommended I see a urology specialist.

The specialist said, his scope showed signs of growths on my prostrate. He took some biopsies this last Monday. Can you say, "NO FUN !!!"

Then of course comes the unbearable wait. Your mind plays out all sorts of what ifs. What am I gonna do. How am I gonna make sure she and my sons are taken care of.

Well, the call came in yesterday. Phew!!! The tests were negative. Yeah, that's right. This is the time negative is really good!!!!

Get home. Tell my wife. We talk a little bit.

She has watched some of our friends who have lots of money, big house, do nothing and get very little enjoyment out of life.

He is always gone. They never do anything. Yet they have a big house.

She has also seen some other friends who scrap to make ends meat, they don't have much to save.

They are always on the go, traveling together to see family. They do not own a house, but they enjoy the hell out of life.

Now my wife is. Screw the big house. Let's go some where next year.

I want to enjoy our life together. Let's go to Europe.

Well, we talk and have decide maybe that's a little more than we can manage.

But we can definately take son to San Diego. See the Zoo, Sea World and just have some fun.

A bright blaring reminder just how mortal we are and how little control we have over life.

Amazing how a little scare puts some perspective back in your life.

BTW ... For those of us over 50... Don't forget to have your blood test done.....

Great story, and I am glad your healthy!

November I go in for my annual checkup. I dread the checkup, but your right. Keeping up with our health after 50 ensure more years with the one we love.

I tell my wife, it is just longer she has to put up with me !

Hey Michael, glad for the results, and that it had an up side --- one we all should consider, about making our lives more fulfilling! Depending on the kind, of course, prostrate cancer is not necessarily a death sentence.. My father was diagnosed in his early 60's, and lived nearly 20 years without much affect----before dying from several of the diseases related to smoking.

There is a saying; Most men die with prostrate cancer. Few men die from it.

We should not only get annual checkups for our PSA, but for all those things that we can fix if caught early.
