robhon
Finally met up with Dave G this weekend. We met up on Friday and I took him up for a sightseeing flight in my little airplane. (Very small two seater.) Then we met up afterwards with JM, her son, a cousin and my mother for dinner. We were just having a lot of laughs over dinner, ribbing each other over our differing political leanings, etc. I called Youyue at one point and JM and she chatted for a while. I think it was a really good conversation for Youyue to hear from someone who's already here. I think the only thing they talked about was food. JM's son is a great little kid. He's picking up English very quickly and seems very enthusiastic about it. Dave's great with him! They look like great buddies. At the end of dinner the bill came and, in his generosity, Dave put down his credit card. The woman said, "Oh, we don't take credit cards, it's cash only." (BTW, I chose the restaurant. I completely forgot about their stupid cash only policy.) One thing led to another and the restaurant owner got all pissy with us over his rather inane policy. JM's cousin had cash but Dave and I gave him a few extra words to remember us by. (Yes, I got into the frey as well.) By the time we were leaving the restaurant the owner was standing at the door yelling at us as we walked away. He got paid but he'll never get another dime from me. The confrontation made JM a bit nervous. My mother thought it was a total hoot. What a great bonding experience! I'm sure that Dave's my buddy for life now. I can't wait to take Youyue and Sonny to Vegas now. Bet we can really stir things up there!! Link to comment
robhon
BTW, Dave was totally embarrassed about the restaurant scene. But he didn't need to be. The restaurant owner guy was a TOTAL weasel. He's probably the same guy who dumped that woman on 001 by canceling their interview. Link to comment
Robert S.
Right on Dave and Rob!!! Put those weaselly restauranteurs in their smelly cockroach infested place!!! Jing Mei might have seemed a bit nervous but no doubt she was proud of you. Link to comment
robhon
I was just thinking, too... I swear the restaurant owner looked the spitting image of one of those early Looney Tunes characters. It was either a weasel or a fox or something. Thin little goatee and mustache, sideways smile, jumpy eyebrows... Link to comment
robhon
Did Dave do his kiss-a-dog trick? Yeah, well... I didn't want to mention the electricity in the air between him and my mother's yorkie. Link to comment
Mick
Glad you and Dave were finally able to meet. I enjoy restaurant fights. We had a near knock down and drag out in Shantou one time when they tried to overcharge us when we took a group of students out to dinner. Li was wondeful, trashing the owner in rapid Chinese. I didn't get a word in but just stood around trying to look tough. Link to comment
