Eric Petersen
They wouldnt let her put her new married name on the ID so we got one with her original name.. and its not printed on the spot the guy told me you must wait 30 days for a ID if your not citizen .. hope that doesnt slow down my filing.. and a head up for all those wanting to get state ID. need 2 or 3 papers ( bills, letters, car reg anything, showing the address your spouse lives at with her name or you will need 3 and a paper signed that you aknowledge that she is living with you. etc the guy also refered me to a small office near by since its Miami. I might go there after the S.S office tomorrow see if they can help with the avalance of paper work that I will prepare over the next few days.got to keep this thing rolling I think I need to get her to do the vacanices next befroe the filing of the 485 so that might be next. that is why the offioce could help I can show them what I got and they can help tell me what we need and where to go . I will keep you guys posted if I find out anything out of the ordinary..Thanks to all for all the wonderful advise so far so good no hitches.. peace Eric and Kayla, Link to comment
dnoblett
it wont, you do NOT need a state ID when filing I-485 to adjust status. My wife did not get a State ID until she had her Green-card. Link to comment

Sweet..... Didn't you need her SS card along with Passport...if she's only been with you in the US she won't have much proof. I keep hearing the PSA on TV and wonder what we have to face...ZZ Link to comment

warpedbored
Here is how it came down for us. First thing we did was get married. Next stop was the SSA. We took a certified copy of our marriage license, her passport and a piece of mail that had been delivered in her name. We filled out the application in her married name. We had no problem but another couple we know went to the same SSA office a few months later and had to do the SSN in her maiden name. Her SS card came in about 4 days. After we got that we went to the DMV with the SS card, her passport, a certified copy of the marriage license and some mail. We got the state ID card in her married name no problem. Now this varies from state to state. Some states won't issue an ID card without having a green card. After the DMV we went to the bank where I put her on all of my accounts. Next was the Civil Surgeon's office. We had her vaccinations done in China so all the Civil Surgeon had to do was sign off on the vaccinations. We were lucky enough to find one who did it for us for free. Later when we referred someone else to him he charged them $25.00 Now we had everything we needed to file for AOS. We filled out the I-485 using her maiden name as a middle name and my last name for her family name. This worked well for us. Others we know here in Portland followed the same routine and it worked well for them. Expect problems at the SSA. They seem to have a problem understanding what's allowed for K-1 visas. Good luck Link to comment
Guest jin979
Its not hard you take everything, that includes her being joint on bank account, lease/mortage, and utility bills. If a USC is not prepared to do that then if I was her I would never trust him. Link to comment

I never put Jiaying on my mortgage, or on the utility bills. She still seems to have a great deal of faith in me. Texas is a community property state - she was pissed when she had to make an extra trip to Guangzhou to get her signature notarized for the house sale anyway. Link to comment

However later when removing conditions you do provide this type of evidence. AOS only needs evidence that you satisfied the requirements of a K-1 visa, {Enter USA, and marry the person who filed the I-129F in the first place}, and affidavit of support from the petitioner. No other evidences requested by the I-485. I-751 Removal of conditions requires evidence of a bonafide marital relationship. Link to comment

We had a joint credit card, she had her own. Her name was on the bank account. Texas is a community property state - this means that from a legal point of view, it makes no difference if her name is on it or not. Link to comment
