Jon & Cindy
I want to send my in-laws some money as a gift. What's the best way to go about it? I won't mind paying a little extra if it means less hassle. Thanks! Jon & Cindy

Kyle
I like the idea of setting up a separate account for them and sending them the debit card. That to me, seems like the cheapest/easiest way to do it. We've read several posts that that suggestion has come up a few times; we'll probably take that route. I'll post several links that I found while searching for "send money" There are plenty more that I didn't list which you can search for yourself. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...ic=38455&hlhttp://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...ic=35260&hlhttp://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...ic=32767&hlhttp://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...ic=30959&hl

This would be easy to set-up from the US but I would not want to pay the fees. The easiest way I found was a direct internation transfer bank account to bank account from my USA bank. They charge a flat $40 fee (so the more you send the lower your fee --- go for your in-laws ). The transfer can be made via phone (after setting up security) and usually arrives in China within 24-48 hours or sooner.
Kyle
I have a credit union account, and never get charged any fees when using a Chinese ATM. Depends on your bank Edited February 23, 2010 by Kyle (see edit history)
credzba
Last November we sent a check (yes regular personal check) to an aunt in Nanjing. She had to try 3 banks, but finally found one who would let her deposit it, but the funds did not become available for 2 weeks (or some time I forget). Anyway, that was absolutely the safest, cheapest way, but it takes time for the paper check to get to china, and a little hassle to find the right bank. Depends on your bankWow .. that is good information to know. Our company credit union never charges transaction fees for USA usage but still charged for international. They claimed it was not them charging but it was Visa's fee. I guess I should shop around for credit unions.
chilton747
xoom.com is good. I just sent $1500 and it cost me $4.99. It is a bank to bank transfer.

Randy W
xoom.com is good. I just sent $1500 and it cost me $4.99. It is a bank to bank transfer. Be careful - Xoom charges 1% on the currency conversion (6.75 conversion rate) and has a fairly small limit.

My limit is $6000 per month. Probably because I have been using them for quite a while. The $4.99 is a recent rate reduction. Not sure if it is for long time members or not. Wow, wish I could get 102300rmb for $1,500. My wife uses xoom to send money to parents. Always works fine but one time it did take a few days longer than normal.
