I would say some nice piece of jewelry maybe with her birthstone in it. Something that she'll cherish and remind her of your first visit. Cindy, on the other hand, suggests a laptop! Good luck!

perhaps something that can't be found in china? when i went to meet my wife's parents' for the first time, i gave everyone (mom and dad, brother and saozi, my wife) tiny wooden chests made and painted by oaxacan craftsmen in central america. i put some small candies and fruits in them so i wouldn't be giving them an empty box. last time i was at brother's apartment the chest i gave them was displayed proudly on their bedroom table with saozi's jewelry in it.
