stacato
My wife's son (19 years old) was laid off from his job due to the economy last week after working there part time for the last 8 month. He has a 10 year green card, and I signed the I-864 for him during the visa process. Is he eligible for unemployment, and can they (The government) come after me due to signing the I-864? dnoblett
Unemployment is NOT a means tested benefit, it is an insurance plan paid into by employers. They cannot and will not hold you the sponsor responsible to repay unemployment. If son were to use a welfare program like food-stamps, then you would be responsible to repay the government for that means tested benifit. So YES son CAN use un-employment. Link to comment
