Randy W
Getting Married in China To legally get married in China, you will gather the required documents and present them to the appropriate Chinese authorities. Any ceremony is optional. Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. - Marriage Registration in China (includes a sample single affidavit) The required documents may be certified in China by taking them to a consulate/Embassy. The documents may be ready in time to get married (register) that same day. In the states, it must be notarized then sent to your state's department of state for notarization...then sent to the Chinese consulate Link to comment
Randy W
but of course you asked about a residence permit. If you are wanting to file DCF, check with your local consulate about exactly what they require to file an I-130 for the spouse of an American citizen. The Chinese Residence Permit Link to comment
Randy W
If you are filing K-1, it is not a good idea to get married before she arrives in the states. Link to comment
dnoblett
OR, you can simply pay a visit to a US Consulate in China and get a Marriageability Affidavit. What documents do I need to register a marriage with the Chinese civil affairs office? Upon receipt of an application to register a marriage, the Chinese civil affairs office must ascertain that both parties are eligible to marry. The American partner to a marriage in China will generally be asked to submit a current passport and a Marriageability Affidavit to a local civil affairs office (Many Chinese jurisdictions insist that the Marriageability Affidavit be translated into Chinese and that the translation be done by an office they authorize.). If both parties are foreigners, one side should present a Chinese residence permit.). The Chinese partner must submit his or her Family Registration Book (»§¿Ú²¾ Hu Kou Bu) or residence permit, and Chinese National ID card (Éí·ÝÖ¤ Shen Fen Zheng). How do I get the Marriageability Affidavit? The U.S. Consulate has the authority to issue Marriageability Affidavits for Americans who wish to marry in China. To apply for a Marriageability Affidavit, you are required to apply in person, by appointment, at the U.S. Consulate. Please click here to make an appointment. You must bring your U.S. passport, your fianc¨¦¡¯s ID, and evidence that you are currently single if you have been married before, and sign your Marriageability Affidavit in front of a Consular officer. Marriageability Affidavit Fee:US$30. Cash, credit cards or traveler's checks (RMB or dollars) are accepted. http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/in..._in_china2.html http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/up...it_04-20-09.doc Link to comment
Guest Wuhan4me
1. Depends on where her hukuo is 'homed' to. Usually, if you are married in China, you can get a temporary residency permit with a duration between 6 months to 18 months. I am not speaking of 'visa', but a temporary residency permit. 2. Depends on WHERE you are. 3. I suggest you apply AFTER you are married in China. 4. Single Certificate / Affadavit of Marriageability. If getting one in USA is difficult, get one, instead, at any US Embassy / Consulate in China - then take it to the Marriage Bureau in her city, ask them WHERE to get it officially translated ( they'll tell you the address of the office or offices that they accept the translation FROM ) . Good Luck ! Link to comment
whome?
Can someone please answer a few questions for me. 1. How hard is it to get a Chinese residence permit. -- Depends on if you are trying to do it yourself or you are working as an expat for an international company. Much easier to get a work related residence permit.2. How long dose it take to get a Chinese residence permit. -- For work related residence permit you must get a Z-visa in the USA and then you have 30 days to apply for the work related visa. This usually takes 2-4 weeks. I have heard you can get a marriage related 1-yr residence permit in the one day (you have to get if from your wife's hometown and it helps if she knows someone working in the government.3. Do I apply for a Chinese residence permit before I go to China or do I get it when I am there before we get married? -- You have to get a Z visa first to get a work related residence permit. If you want to get a marriage related residence permit you cannot apply before you come to China nor before you are married. So you need a business or tourist visa to stay in China first.4. What else do I need to bring with me to China? -- For getting married or for what? If getting married in China see the GUZ website and have your wife call her province foreign affairs bureau. Basically you need your passport and a single/marriability certificate translated into Chinese with offical chop/stamp. If you are divorced you can get the marriagability certificate from the Embassy but you need a notarized copy of your divorce agreement. If single you do not need to bring anything. Please any advise you all can offer will be helpful. RobertI beleive you are trying to get a residence permit to stay in China with your wife ...
