bokiwen
Does anyone have experience with FTA (Free To Air) Satellite Dishes and receivers? Yin and I were discussing dropping Dish network when we get our house (in three days!), installing an over the air antenna and maybe a FTA dish and receiver. Supposedly there are 9 or so channels with Chinese content available (CCTV 9 is also FTA). Does anyone know the content of any of these channels? Beautiful Life TV (Galaxy 19) CCTV 4 (Galaxy 3C) Da-Ai TV (Satmex 6) Da-Ai TV 2 (Galaxy 19) Hwazan Satellite TV (Galaxy 19) Hwazan Satellite TV (Satmex 6) New Tang Dynasty TV (Galaxy 19) Taiwan Macroview TV (Galaxy 3C) Link to comment

warpedbored
There are a lot of channels you can get with an FTA setup. A lot of them you need a BUD (big ugly dish) to get. without at least a 7 foot dish you won't be able to get any of the C-band satellites. Some of the KU band sats have some international programing but much of it is encrypted. I would advise at least a 36 inch dish. Some of the sats are linear and some circular. An invacom quad LNBF will get you both bands. For multiple sats you wil need a motor. An HH120 stab motor will suffice for any dish up to 1.2 meters. Your best selection of sats will be with a BUD. Check Craigslist or free cycle. Sometimes people give them away. Link to comment

teeb57
We have direct TV, however where we live the only hole in the sky is the main Satellite and one other. The satellite that carries the Mandarin stations is blocked by a big tree. My wife uses PPLIVE, and TVU streaming TV over the internet. http://www.pplive.com/en/index.html http://www.tvunetworks.com I was wanting the same thing for my wife. Other than that darn tree standing in the way, how is direct TV working out for you? I've heard some say Direct is the way to go while others say they regret having bought it. Link to comment
