tonyontherock
A Chinese man walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to China on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer tells him that the bank will need some form of security for the loan, so the Chinese man hands over the keys to a new Ferrari parked on the street in front of the bank. He produces the title and everything checks out. The loan officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the Chinese for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the Chinese returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, "Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?" The Chinese replies: "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?" Ah, the mind of the Chinese... Link to comment
Mick
Great story. I have always said the Chinese are the best capitalists in the world. Link to comment
Dave G.
When JM and I stood on the Great Wall, she smiled and said, "The Chinese....they are very clever. They can do anything." It's SO true! http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/j0/lightbul.gif Link to comment
whoever
I wonder if I park my Toyota, would the bank still be the same? However, I think the bank would charge for the parking fee anyways. It's a fake story. Link to comment
Guest bbridges51
of COURSE it's a fake story. it's STILL a funny one, though. Brian Link to comment
Guest hakkamike
I do not think that anyone was trying to pass this along as a true situation but it could have happened, like they say stranger than fiction. I would be more than happy to loan 5K on a 200K automobile hehehehehe. Later Michael Perez Link to comment
tonyontherock
I got it as an forwarded email and seriouely doubt that it is true. However, the fact remains that given time and a more tolerant environment than, say, China, Chinese can and do fair ok. Link to comment

skrunks
I enjoyed the story which was meant -- my guess -- only to illustrate the two cultural and differing ways of looking at things. Nonethless, would we ever here such a tale as that beginning with "this guy from jersey went in to borrow $5,000"? Probably not! Our views of life depends on where we sit! Link to comment
tonado
Actually, I received this joke many times. The only difference the guy was jewish or Italian. Still very funny. Link to comment
