Stepbrow
I hope that this pay increase is above and beyond their base salary. If so it is a pretty big percentage increase in pay, the equivalent of $3 going to $147.Here's the article: http://english.people.com.cn/90001/90776/90881/6558034.html Link to comment

Richard & Li
Chinese Scientist Get Big Pay Raise? I'd say "Big" is relative. Yup, 500%. But then, statistics lie. Link to comment
Randy W
Chinese Scientist Get Big Pay Raise? I'd say "Big" is relative. Yup, 500%. But then, statistics lie. That raise is all of $136, for a total allowance of $165 per month - small even by Chinese standards. Hopefully, their room and board is taken care of. Link to comment
parapara_13
I work with many Chinese graduate students and post-docs. Most are extremely intelligent in science and engineering. The pay raise is well deserved. Most that come to study or work as graduate students and post-docs in US universities don't get paid as well as US citizens. Their stipend, however, is still better than what their salaries would be in China. Link to comment
Don
I think this is the extra stipend that the government gives some of their top researchers on top of their base salary. I know that many of the best Chinese researcher can make even more extras. I know a few of the best US based Chinese national researchers have gotten offers of a lot more for the first three years and several millions to set up labs. Of course several millions is not much to set up a lab now days. So some are going back to China now to set up their labs and continue their current work, but in China.
