Brian and Jia Scott
Hi again my friends, As I was reading some topics friends posted here, I am getting confused. My case is CR-1, after I enter the states, do I still need to apply for SSN or Green card before I could have it? Or I would just have my SSN and Green card automatically cause we filed CR-1? Anyone knows about this? Thank you so much for this. GOD BLESS LING Edited December 3, 2008 by Brian and Jia Scott (see edit history) Link to comment
Sebastian
Ling - the green card will show up automatically via postal mail to the address in the usa that was listed on the application. SSN, that's where it gets 'weird' - it could be one of the two: 1. It arrives magically in the postal mail or 2. you go to the SSA office with your green card and apply. Good Luck ! Link to comment

Hi Darnell, Thank You so much for the quick reply!!! I really appreciate your helps!!! But once I get my visa, will the green card just show up automatically anyways even if I still have not entered the states yet, or it will only show up automatically after I enter the states? Hehehe... it took me seconds to understand door#1 and door#2, but finally makes sense to me now... Thank you Randy, I will definitely go to SSA for my SSN if I don't see it magically in the postal mail... GOD BLESSLING Link to comment
Sebastian
Ling - you go to the states, a record of your arrival is made at the POE. This 'record of entry' is the timeline tick - once you make it into the USA, the greencard will be sent to the address in the USA within 30 days of POE arrival date. Now, yours is a strange case, as you've got a military expedite, so I can't forecast, reliably, what's gonna really happen SPECIFICALLY for you. I'm making a wild guess, that once you receive the green card, maybe you want to go overseas and visit your husband somewhere, like maybe he takes off 2 weeks to go to Germany US army base. Just remember, regardless of where you 'step off' to see him - you'll need a travel visa to enter that 'other country' unless you two choose a country that has Visa Waiver Program WITH China. Makes sense right now, me and my husband were still thinking how will this thing work out when we talked on the phone this morning... hehehe... guess the whole immigration processes is hard and that makes us think this is gonna be as hard as that... Anyway Thank you for the helps, Randy! GOD BLESSLING Link to comment

Mmmm, well, Darnell, yes we got a military expedite, and I can't forecast what is gonna happen neither, but that's not gonna be a bad thing, I hope. My husband took his 2 weeks vocation and spent it with me in China in September to October, you know they call it R&R in the army. And after this vocation, he can't go to anywhere in this world except Iraq until he finishes his this trip and come back to the states, and you know, he wouldn't agree on for me to travel to Iraq cause it's unsafe over there, so I will just wait for his safe return home with his parents in the states... but the addition information about the travel outside the states once I enter it is so helpful to me. Thanks so much for it!!! GOD BLESSLING Edited December 3, 2008 by Brian and Jia Scott (see edit history) Link to comment
