hi all, I come to US last month with my CR-1, it is almost a month now but i still have not gotten my SSN, I checked the box in ds-230 part 2, how long i have to wait for my SSN or I need to go to the SSA office with my husband to apply in person?

Go to the SS office and apply. We have yet to hear of anyone who has gotten their SS card as a result of checking that box.

so i will need to apply for my lao po's s.s card when she comes at the end of january . do i need to wait till green card comes .

K-3 or CR-1???

 

K-3 WILL NOT be able to get SSN until after they apply for EAD and/or AOS, and have EAD or Green-card.

 

CR-1 gets green-card upon entry to the USA, and can get SSN shortly after entry.

 

ALSO what does this thread have to do with CITIZENSHIP?? Should'nt it have been posted in "AOS & Immigration Challenges" forum?? The Citizenship forum has to do with filing N-400 for naturalization.

cr-1, so s.s card will come after green card ?

It may or may not, if you checked the box on DS-230, then give it 30 days after entry, then if you have not received it, then go to SSA and apply for a replacement card.

so, it is important that dont tell them I checked the ds-230 box? will it mess up that i may have 2 ssn because i checked the box? :eyebrow:

You won't get 2 ssn's, they check it against your A# before issuing the number. But if you tell them you checked the box they will tell you to wait for it to arrive which may not happen.

 

The important thing is for you to get your SSN without having to wait forever.
