Hong Kong Airport

A few years ago, China needed a new airport in the Hong Kong area. The problem: there was not enough available land to build it. In yet another incredible feat of human accomplishment, China accomplished what has never been done before.

??? Just why do you think this has never been done before. It is nothing more than land reclaimation. It has been done many, many times in various areas like San Francisco Embarcadero section and other places all over the world. As populations grow, we have a need for more land. Techniques may vary, but the idea is the same.

Perhaps you might cite some of the specific techniques that have been previously used? While making islands in the water is nothing new, at the time of the construction, it had never been done on this scale. There was quite a bit more involved here than a guy shoveling dirt and rocks into the sea. The engineering involved in not only the airport, but the roadways that access it, are unprecedented in human history.

HKG is my favorite airport.

I can have a cheesburger and a beer and my wife can have her noodles and tea. :coolthumb:

Yes, it is a very nice airport. Clean, very efficient, great food, and big as hell.

Here are just a few links for those interested in the HK airport. The airport, and supporting infrastructure, including baggage and roadways, have been widely accepted as being at the pinnacle of modern engineering.

See you over at Google...

It's hard to Google when you don't know what you're Googling for - perhaps the original poster could shed some light on his original topic

Wikipedia didn't seem real impressed - perhaps this is what you're talking about?

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is famous as one of the world busiest and best airports, served by 60 airlines to over 140 international and domestic cities
