"This Could Explode Somewhere..."

Recommended Posts

It wasn't Roger - he used quotes (" ") around "this could explode somewhere"

There you go again Randy.

For your information, Roger opened the topic and personally typed the title to it. You can see the title to the topic can't you?

So, again, I restate that Roger opened the topic citing an article and commented on its content. It's not hard for a reasonable person to see how the topic evolved into something that has nothing to do with his original post; and again, the content of the article about the people of China facing an impending civil explosion is based solely on Roger's conjecture and the authors conjecture.

China is no more ready to explode than your underwear; unless of course you loaded them this morning...

Yes - and I see the quotes around it, and the exact words in the article, attributed to "Li Datong, a prominent Chinese political writer". All words from the OP are copied directly from the article.

Opps, "Li Datong, a prominent Chinese political writer". who said he is prominent? I guess some western journalist think he is. Sure even me feel exciting to read Li Datong's comment. He is very sharp to point out china blot. I guess western print release is even more excited than me when reading his comment. For example. Li Datong can make a big deal of some of our country leader is from the same family with the former country leader. and he comment that the country is controlled buy those families. Kinda similar to Bush and Old Bush are from the same family  Which comes to the conclusion that American will explore becos the country will belong to bush family. :roller: His comment is kinda fun to read, I mean the different voice.

So?? :roller:

What's your point? That you and Roger disagree with the content of the article? Or would you prefer taking a more non-committal posture and profess yourself just to be a poster of information without an opinion?

Of course we know that Roger has an opinion on this topic. Have a look:

Revenue from the Olympics??? Jesse no country ever makes money by hosting the Olympics...China is spending $30 BILLION DOLLARS to showcase their country to the world...Only the star athletes end up with gold... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

No what I'm saying is that the situation in rural China is a powderkeg of inequalities and injustices and who knows when, where and if there will be a spark... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

You asked if I noticed the title. I had.

You're entitled to your own opinion. You don't seem to care for any other.

I am missing a basic tenet of communism, I think so.

But - won't the 'wealth' generated by the Chinese Government during the Olympics get redistributed to those on the lower strata ?

Don't they PAY taxes, rather than the other way around ?

C'mon Randy. That is not what I asked you. You started taking off on a tangent asking about negativity, so I attempted to steer you back to the original topic and Roger's stance on it.

Regarding opinions, and whether I care to hear others, your just wrong. The tag teaming that goes on between you, Roger and Dave prevents most topics from evolving into a reasonable discussion where everyone can express themselves. Far too often a good topic gets lost because a few members choose to mock and disregard others that disagree with them.

I frequently disagree with Roger; especially his view of China. This doesn't mean that I don't care to hear his opinion. He can expect that when he posts his opinion and I disagree, I will say so in plain English. I try hard to refrain from mocking someone that I disagree and instead address the topic rather than the person.

As much as I may disagree with Roger, I find that many of his posts add value. Of course, I also think that many do not. I do view your contributions in this thread and a few others as attempting to provoke a little bar room brawl. I think you rather enjoy that actually.

Good night, Jesse.

[back to the topic at hand, which is Roger's belief that there is going to be an EXPLOSION in China over the very real wide gaps in the social classes in China.

Is there some problem with your understanding of the meaning of the words "could" and "is"??? :)

The title of the piece is clearly "COULD"... :D

Kindly do not continue to misquote me... :)

Except, of course, when you find yourself at a loss for anything cogent to add and resort to calling someone a socialist.

Trying hard is not quite the same as actually doing something

Boy is that the truth... Maybe we can encourage... Jesse, to try even harder... :toot:

Hey Roger - I like this topic - thanks for posting it - but ...

Won't the 'wealth' generated by the Chinese Government during the Olympics get redistributed to those on the lower strata ? Isn't that the point of communism in the first place? I'm not knocking the concept, just mentioning that the lower strata SHOULD get something once the coffers are full from the Olympic Tourist Traffic, yes?

On the communist-capitalist thingie I actually could not care one whit what they choose to call it... Whatever "system" is fine with me as long as "the people" are happy... ;)

Well, lets see - there's them construction costs. (debit)

Then there's them electricity costs whilst it's on. (debit)

Then there's the price of water for the flush toilets and showers (debit).

Somewhere in the middle are the cash reserves and foreign currency that China holds, not to

mention the trillions o dollars held in US Treasury Bills.

But then there's the licensing rights paid by NBC (credit).

The licensing fees for them mascots paid by the manufacturers (credit).

The exclusitivity fees paid by the Sponsors, Coke, McD's, Visa (credit)

But that's just an example o things. Surely the debits (30 bil usd) are less than the credits, and that 'positive value' will get redistributed to the lower strata. It's all conjecture at this point - lets see what the Communist Party Central Planning Committee Accountants do with the numbers after a month has passed, ya ?
