Not Marrying in China

I guess I was a little bit blinded by wanting to be xiaomin's husband so bad, that I planned on marrying her during my first visit to China. I'm not sure we even discussed it. I asked, she said yes, boom... But, thanks to the advice that we got here, we did some more research and decided to keep our separation (and visits) as simple as possible, and take the speedier route of the fianc¨¦e visa. She was unexpectedly overjoyed at not getting married in China! I had no clue... (We had a brief talk about her telling me when something isn't perfect in her world! It's critical to our happiness that everything is perfect for her. She's making such a big commitment, and change in her life to be with me, I owe her the universe.)

Honey, you've told me that America would recognise a marriage registered in any country as long as it's legal, but still, i just want our marriage to be originally registered under the law of the United States of American, my future home-county, the land of my dream. that's all.

Visitor's visas for a husband of an American citizen are hard to come by - best to do what they did next - a DCF.

That's my plan..DCF, but I work mostly overseas so it works for me. I'm applying for my residence visa for were I'm at now. I plan on marrying her in China and 6 months and 1 day and I'll apply for my residence visa for there as well. Hmm I wonder how many citizenships I can rack up..lol

Engagement party...guess I'll have to ask her about that.

When we get back to the states I'll marry her again, most likely in Vegas. That's is were my mom & sis are at.

I hardly held or saw the red packets before I handed them over to Laopo! To this day I do not know how much the haul was.

thank you so much for the goodwill wishes, we really need it at the moment, at which point we are just so thrilled at any sign of hope, yet, also shattered at any slightest sign of snag. ... SIGH!!! I told my Jerry that my heart can only survive one battle like this, and i'm doing it just be i want to be with him soooo badly, and now the drag is hurting me physically, and we haven't even begun the long journey yet!

 

i read your time line, and got a bit confused, why is that you husband was denied the visa to America, i automaticall assume that he's an anmerican. or you are? or one of you is Japanese? as you met and got married in Japan. ... forgive me if i've been too nosey. (you dont have to answer me if you feel like to.)

 

but i'm happy for you that every worked out the way it should be. i wish you the best.

Sorry to confuse you! As others have said (sorry I did not look at this thread for so long!) my husband and I were both foreigners in Japan. He is from China (Mongolian) and I am American. We both met in Japan and decided to get married there. We then went to China to do a DCF. Hubby was denied a visitors visa to America because his wife (me ) is American. We only had one snag that kind of made things slower than it should have been which was the Japanese police report. It was very difficult to obtain while we were in China. Other than that, we did not have any other problems.

 

I am sure that you both will have a smooth run through GUZ. Best of luck!!

I just had to chime in about the red envelopes. We had just a ceremony for her family and friends when I was visiting in June, since we are unsure we will make it back in a reasonable amount of time once she is here (we did not register, didn't want to screw up the K1). We definitely had quite the haul, I think it was on order of 22,000 yuan. About a quarter paid for the spread and gifts to guest, but that left us quite a bit for a honeymoon :-)

 

I just received an email on Monday about my I-129F being approved and the NOA2 being in the mail. So soon we will be applying for a visa!

Sorry, I'm very late seeing this thread.

 

We made the same decision. The waiting was tough! But, of course. well worth it.

 

If you're like me. You will have some crazy moments. I was ready to move to New Zealand so that we could be together (while I continued working).

 

I spent every summer in China with Li since I met her. Last summer, I even managed to get a job in Hangzhou. Now, finally, she and her son are here with me.

I will definately make a trip! Just as soon as Wendy and I get here and get settled. Another reason to visit the area so soon!
