For those who haven't seen this yet, take a look. It's really quite inspiring and refreshing....

http://videos.komando.com/2008/07/27/beijing-olympics-song/

I saw this already, but I think it is good! Especially for those who are unfamiliar, or uninterested in China. Maybe it will brighten up some of those spirits. :D

A lot of smiling faces and pretty girls. Just something about when a Chinese person opens their arms and says: "Wo yen ni."

fei chang bu cuo

:dunno:

:-)

Well, my wife has corrected yet again on my use of pinyin. The correct writing of the pinyin words is :Beigjing huan ying ni, meaning Beijing welcomes you....

and remember, the down tone is the dammit tone...meaning, remember saying dammit, and you will say the fourth tone correctly

:D

Don't ya know it. That is definitely one of those tunes that gets stuck in your head. Once I found the correct spelling of the title I was able to find the lyrics. Now, Lan and Sarah are walking about the house humming the song.

Right now, I do have just a little extra time. The typhoon in Taiwan pretty much shut things down at that office, which slowed things for us a bit. But, reality comes back on Thursday. Back to the tough grind....

I am trying so hard to learn Chinese. I even bought Chinese for Dummies. :P The tones are difficult for me. Like most Americans, I am not used to having to use tones like that. The only other language I speak is Spanish, and they don't use tones either.

I mean...I guess my Chinese isn't too bad. When I talk to my fiancee, she can understand most of what I say.

I will say that what I really like about the Chinese language is that they don't have different tenses of verbs. So...unlike Spanish, that has about a million different ways to conjugate verbs, you don't have to worry about it with Chinese.

I am thinking about taking Chinese courses at the university since I am a student there anyway, but I am already so far behind on earning my degree that I don't know if I should or not. I would really like to though.

I am hoping to eventually speak it well enough to be able to have a conversation with her family. (The first family gathering when I was there was a little awkward to say the least...since no one else in her family speaks or even understands English.)
