Unless you buy all but the most basic of cars, you're paying double what it would cost in the US. The only cheap cars are the PWT vehicles. Even the "decent" lower end cars are costing $15k and to get any type of A/C you'd need to have a popsicle enima.

Yes I noticed that as well...The basic models are cheap but head into the stratosphere price-wise when you go upmodel...But sice I'm not out to impress myself anymore a basic model will be just fine... :rotfl: Oh and for the uninitiated Bill...What is PWT??? :( Also I thought everything came with AC these days... :roller: And I won't touch a popsicle enema with a ten-foot pole... :D

Sheesh... I thought I was a good haggler. I bring in cash only to buy my vehicles... but this is killer. It makes a good point that when you bring in a box full of money, you mean business. I would be more worried about getting home with the box if the deal fell through though. Someone might have the bright idea to follow you home, and see what else you might have stored in boxes packed in your garage... or kitchen, or living. (Since there aren't many garages that I say in rural China.)

When we went to the China bank to get the money for the down payment of our house, it was Chairman Maos in abundance. We then got on the back of a motorcycle taxi (in the rain) and went to the complex to pay up. Yes cash is the preferred method.

60% of the purchase price -- excluding tax, insurance and license -- of new cars can be financed for up to 5 years. The interest rate is about 7%, but it depends on whether you get financing through the dealer or not. Through the dealer could be as high as 9%.

I recently purchased a car and will write up a brief summary of the process when I get a chance.

Yes, everything comes with A/C, but the A/C on basic models is about as useful as a battery powered hand-held fan. A/C on the PWT models is basically a switch that tells you to lower the windows.

PWT = poor white trash -- or the Chinese equivalent. These are the people driving $3,500 QQ cars.

The 307 or the Fit is basically the next step up from a PWT-mobile.

Add 8% for tax & license and the 307 is going to cost you $17,500 and the Fit comes in at $20,600.

If you are going to finance the car, add 5 years of mandatory full-coverage insurance to the cost. This must be paid up front for the entire financing period.

Ah it will be SWEET to be a foreigner driving around in a PWT-mobile... :D ...Bill I know that licenses in China are from the city in which you live and if you have a license from the country, which is much cheaper, then you are not supposed to be driving in the city... :toot: I also assume that these city licenses are MUCH more expensive in the largest cities as opposed to my little cities like Qionghai and Yuxi... :D
