I had an Infopass appointment yesterday to inquire about are tardy 2 year green card for which we have been waiting 8 months. Have others found this a useful avenue? I thought it was a waste of time. The lady at the window could only repeat the stale information that we could get on the USCIS website. I got a $35 parking ticket on top of it.

No ticket here, but it helped a little. We had been asked to submit a City of Houston police report (since they weren't able to use her fingerprints). She did verify that our file was complete, basically waiting for someone to rubber stamp it. She said to us as we started to walk away, "Check back if you haven't heard anything in 90 days.

So here we are at 90 days - I wrote our congressman and submitted an inquiry to the USCIS ombudsman - again.

I've never before heard of an organization able to increase fees in order to "improve service", and then turn around and provide no service at all because of the "increased business" the higher fares brought.

Randy W, I'd guess you're shocked the fee increase didn't improve service. Just like when "they" started the email option for questions. Of course leaving out the part where they don't stay up to date or send only stock genaric answers :)

I'm shocked that they created a logjam, and have been using the fee increase as an excuse for almost a year now (I'm sure they're "busy" processing the tremendous pile of citizenship applications they got as a result of the fee increase).

And that they're deflecting inquires as a result of the new policy to not hold up green cards for the FBI background check ("We will not process your inquiry at this time")

USCIS is evil!

I would be totally pissed if I had to take the interview and passed and then no green card. What are people doing over there. They need to fire all of them and start with a new staff.... I feel the same way. It's like these people are taking their sweet time just sitting on their ass and not looking at the paper work until they feel like it. Jeezz wouldn't it be great to be a USCIS official and possess the fate of others... It's probaby the adrenaline rush they feel just thinking that they have that power.....

Pur evil as I said.....

Good luck on your green card, everyone here sympathizes with your cause and we all hope you can get the green card soon. Hang in there!

BTW... I also made an info pass appointment with USCIS also and had to listen to a stupid woman tell me that my AOS and I-765 was pending... I was like... shit, I got up at 7:00 am in the morning to rush to downtown and listen to this woman tell me the same crap I already knew. I could have gone online to do that. The woman could have given me some encouraging words or at least some assistance. These people suck and should offer better service.

That's my opinion anyway!!!!

I'm not sure the evil part is intentional on USCIS's part[at least I hope not]. All I know is every time the system is changed to speed things up or make it easier, it screws up something else which makes for a net lose time-wise. Consider when something is time-sensitive and they tell ya; Don't worry, your petition is automatically updated as valid till we get around to it. Understaffed and underfunded. Throw in 2 or 3 different government agencies that don't communicate. Back to the OP, did they file for AP and/or EAD? With those in hand at least they'd be able to move forward a little.

We applied for the AP and got that in a timely manner. Unfortunately we didn't think we needed an EAD. As it turns out we could have gotten her a drivers license with the EAD. Having to drive her to the mall and stores every time has gotten old. At present EAD costs $340, something we could have had for a pittance in the original I-485.

Your timeline shows AOS interview passed, was it approved pending a name check?

If approved, and name check was completed then you should be able to at least get I-551 stamp in passport, this makes passport act as temp green-card. This will allow applying for driver's license.

If name check is still pending, then the I-551 stamp is not an option, and you will either need to apply for EAD, or just sit tight and wait it out. USCIS and FBI have worked out a plan to deal with the backlog but the current priority is on backlogged checks that have been pending 2 years or longer. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...0004718190aRCRD

We really don't have any information on our case. The interviewer said we would get the green card in 4-6 weeks. That's it. I assume it is pending name check, but it could be pending doughnut break for all we have been told. The lady at infopass said they are probably waiting for undetermined documents to arrive, "its still processing". I didn't know about the I-551; I'll look into that. Thanks
