Inailit88
Hi, as the tax return deadline is approaching...i have a question about the ITN...my wife came here on a k3 on feb this year...and i am going to file jointly with her for 2007's tax return....i know that she has to get an ITN for doing that (because she hasn't had a social yet)....now my question is...how would she go about getting that ITN? do we have to wait for that ITN to come to the mail first and then file along with 1040 (tax form) OR do i just fill out the ITN form together with the 1040?....can it be done electronically or do i have to file it in paper....please tell me exactly what to do..........thanks..guys.... dnoblett
To obtain an ITIN, you must complete IRS Form W-7, IRS Application for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (PDF) . The Form W-7 requires documentation substantiating foreign/alien status and true identity for each individual. You may either mail the documentation, along with the Form W-7, to the address shown in the Form W-7 Instructions, present it at IRS walk-in offices, or process your application through an Acceptance Agent authorized by the IRS. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/intern...d=96696,00.html IRS website has a lot of useful information. Andy In a quick nutshell - you file a W-7 application for the ITIN, include it with your return, and mail it to the Austin address. Check out Dan's links Link to comment
