MarsofBorg
My wife has a substantial bank account (Bank of China) on the mainland and she wishes to transfer the funds to her U.S. account. We have the U.S. account information needed to give to the Bank of China but I have been going over their website http://www.bocusa.com/ and can't find any clear info on the matter. I think I may have found a form on the site that has to be submitted for transfer but I am not sure if it is the correct form. Has anyone ever done this and if they have, can it be done through the Bank of China located here in the U.S.? On the form I found, it asks for "Betting Account" number. I am not well versed in this at all . Can anyone point me in a direction or give some advice? I am probably naive to think this can be done painlessly Thanks! Curt Link to comment

Curt Curt - BOC doesn't share 'account history' between USA and China accounts. She'll just need to send out the funds via TT (Telephonic Transfer) to her BOCUSA account. TT in China is called 'Wire Transfer' in the USA - is same thing. She'll need the ABA routing code and her account number for the USA bank, give it to the TT Officer at any BOC branch. She doesn't need a form if she goes into any branch in China, in person. {Update}I didn't see a timeline in yer sig, so I studied your prior postings here. Your wife is already in USA. Her account is in China. Is possible to do wire transfer but she'll need to initiate the transfer from a branch in China. I don't recall if a faxed signed TT form is acceptable, but if I were you, I'd persue that . You can also view the BOC (CHINA) website in English at http://www.boc.cn/en/static/ I'd suggest making a telephone call to 011 86 95566 to the call center, anyone there can route you to the TT department. The general overview for TT in China at BOC is here - http://www.boc.cn/en/common/third.jsp?cate...ward+Remittance HTH ! Edited April 1, 2008 by Darnell (see edit history) Link to comment
GZBILL
She'll need to not only file out the TT form at the counter in China, but also present her bankbook from which the funds will be withdrawn. Keep in mind that RMB needs to be converted first to US$ before it can be wired out. She can send her ID card and bankbook to someone in China and they can do this for her, but if the amount is "large", they will not allow this to be done by proxy.
