bethelion
After telling my security officer at work of my relationship with a Chinese national he informed me that I might lose my security clearance which means I would lose my job. Have any of you guys who hold a clearence with the U.S. government had this threat tossed your way in your pursuit of bringing your wife or fiancee here? What was the outcome? Just curious, Brian Link to comment

Jeikun
Married a Chinese National in 2005, Received my DOD secret clearance in 2006. I wasn't awarded an interum clearance, had to wait for the full thing, had to give the adjucator information on any family or contacts she still had in China, but no problem for me. Having a foreign fiancee also caused no problems with my TS-SCI clearance back in 98, and I was working at the NSA at the time (of course that was pre-9/11, and she was Japanese). The important thing is to disclose everything fully. It's not a "deal-killer" it just weighs in with all of your other information. If you are squeaky clean otherwise and there is no communist party affiliation, I wouldn't worry so much. P.S. Our security officer here is a total knob. I would have second guessed anything he told me anyway... not saying it's the same in your case, just wouldn't worry too much. Edited February 13, 2008 by Jeikun (see edit history) Link to comment
jim_julian
Brian, I had the same issue come up in a little different way. I voluntarily disclosed to my company security officer that I had a serious relationship with a Chinese national as soon as that occurred. I then updated the company security officer via company e-mail (creates record) of subsequent engagement, visa application, arrival in th US, and marriage. One of the company lawyers, an ex-Army lawyer, raised my relationship as a security issue all the way up to the CEO. Because it was a company lawyer all possible rocks were overturned and the company, including our security officer, verified that this was not a problem for DoD security clearance as long as it was fully disclosed. I have had no security clearance problems as a result of my relationship and subsequent marriage. My friend, the lawyer, has moved on. Sounds to me like you are doing everything right. I'd create a record and keep your company security officer fully informed. You may also ask the security officer, in a very friendly way, to explain this concern, and it's basis in US security regulations, to you in detail so you may understand and comply. Link to comment
