USCIS did not ask you to go to the local office for biometrics and put a new strip on the back ?

Thats what they did for mine as it was expiring and I was renewing it.

This is a very frequent question on VJ. Their has yet to be a post there about having problems re-entering using the extension letter, the POE officers are well aware of the extension letters.

I have always wondered about the airlines in other countries understanding that the letter is anything more than another piece of paper.

I'd think getting an I-551 stamp in the passport would be a safer way to travel.

Naw!! Wifey is in china now and her GC expired in April. The 10 year is applied for and she has the I-797c as proof of a one year extension. I'm heading to China in a couple of weeks and we will ride home together. I'll betcha a buzillion bucks that she arrives home with me!!

As for airlines in other countries-who gives a rat's ass about them? all they need is a passport to look at!!

Most places no longer do the I-551 stamp in the passport.

How goes lifey and the wifey Trigg? Good to see you! (Just kidding).

Agreed.....most places dont give the stamp unless you really need it. When Jie passed her interview, knowing she would go to China, we asked for the stamp and they refused saying 'we dont give that anymore'. When we got her GC, we had to return it for an error. Before her trip, we went to USCIS for an infopass appt to see what she could do to assure she would return to the US ok, and they finally agreed to stamp her passport.

However, at Pudong airport in Shanghai, when she showed the stamp in her passport instead of the GC, the officers told her that SFO would disallow entry. She argued telling the officer that this was legitimate, and finally the officer made her sign some waiver form stating she couldnt hold anyone in PVG responsible for being turned away in the US.

They finally let her get to her flight and of course, she had absolutely no problem once she reached SFO.

Ai ye!!!!
