Getting a tax transcript from the IRS

Recommended Posts

A while back I read a post that mentioned getting "tax transcripts" from the IRS. Because the records come straight from the US government, does it provide any positive benefit?

Here's the link for it:

There is where I got mine for my 134, it keeps you from sending your W-2's!!!!!!

I used them with the I-134 for K-1, and later with the I-864EZ used for the green-card.

They are preferable to IRS returns (1040+W2 and/or 1099)

Just simple transcripts needed. Not "copy of tax return"

I always refer to: http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq1-6.html when answering I-134 questions.

If I had it do over again, I wouldn't bother making copies of your own 1040s. Just get the IRS transcripts. This is especially so if you own your own business and don't keep all the 1099s. We almost didn't pass the AOS interview because I didn't bring additional documentation to show my business income; copies of 1040s for the last 4 years didn't impress him.

1-800-829-0922 works well also to get any account information! They will send you a simple transcript or an itemized version, good luck. :(

I took a look at IRS Form 4506-T. Besides Item 6a (Return Transcript), do we also need Item 8?

Thanks.

I did not use form 4506-T, I picked up the phone and called (800) 829-1040 spoke with a nice lady at the IRS and ordered simple transcripts, she printed them out while we spoke, and poped them into the mail the next day.
