Work authorization question

Hey,

 

So, my fiance arrived in the U.S. at JFK airport in New York. The immigration people there said that his I-94 from this airport has a work authorization stamped on it. Well, I know my fiance will need to apply for a new work authorization with AOS. My question is, the part on the work authorization form has a question like, "Is this an application for "permission to accept employment" or "renewal of permission to accept employment (attach previous employment authorization document)". So, should I say its a renewal or not?
