  1. Hi guys, My husband is a permanent resident. We just moved and he filed the AR-11 form and I just sent in the I-865. It's a long story, but originally our landlord said we didn't have an apartment number, but now the post office insists that we do. The problem is that we didn't put the apartment number on the change of address forms. Our mail carrier said she will still deliver our mail to our mailbox, even without an apartment number, but that we really do need to tell people about the apartment number. Soooo...my question is, should I wait until we receive a change of address receipt to send in another AR-11 and I-865 or just send it out right away? I just don't want to mess anything up. Oh, and how long will it take to get the change of address receipt. My husband did the online AR-11, so will he still get a receipt mailed to him? Thanks!
  2. Yes, the same problem happened to my husband in December. We got an RFE that said that the state department failed to forward the medical exam that was given to customs when my husband (then fiance) arrived in the U.S. We really weren't sure what to do, so just so there were no problems, we got the medical exam done over again. We got a list of civil surgeons in PA and MD and the first doctor he called said they had an appointment available in 1 week. We went to a Chinese uscis approved civil surgeon in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Here is the info from the uscis website, if you are interested in seeing this civil surgeon. Dr. Baolang Liao 16220 South Frederick Avenue, Suite 418, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 (301) 926-9088 If you don't want to travel to Maryland you can just look for a civil surgeon on the uscis website under civil surgeon locator for new york. i just thought you might be interested in Dr. Liao because you can get an appointment very quickly and it only costs about $120. Make sure to take the yellow book with the prior immunizations in it. The Doctor will write up a new vaccination supplement for you just in case. Oh, and a week after we sent in the new medical exam his case was approved even without an interview. Also, when your husband gets the new exam he will have to get a TB test, so he will have to go back to the doctor's office 3 days later for them to check the results.
  3. Hey all, So, my husband will be going to college this fall. I'm not sure if you all are familiar with this, but there is a government grant program called FAFSA. It's a program that gives federal and state grants to students based on income. My question is, if my husband would apply for and get these grants, would that affect his permanent residency? Like is that considered "means tested public benafits" or whatever it's called? This FAFSA is a normal thing that pretty much all students apply for to get some extra money for college, it's not welfare or anything, so I just am not sure about this. Anybody know about this?
  4. Hey y'all, This is a little late, but a few weeks ago my husband got his permanent resident card! We didn't even need to go to the interview, they just mailed him the card. So, it's pretty cool. Recently they had lost his medical records, so he had to get a whole new medical exam done. Five days after we mailed in the RFE they approved the case. Ok, good luck to everyone else! Please feel free to email me if you have any questions! Thanks for everyone's help! We couldn't have gotten this far without you.
  5. Hey folks, So, we have to send back in the RFE stuff to the california service center. which address do we send the stuff to? When we got the letter that they were transferring our case to the California service center they gave us the address of: California Service Center 2nd Floor 24000 Avila Road, Laguna Niguel, CA 92607-0111 The return address on the RFE envelope says: U.S. Department of Homeland Security P.O. Box 30111-30115 Laguna Niguel, CA 92607-0111 And finally, the small envelope inside the RFE that was mailed is postmarked: Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services California Service Center P.O. Box 10590 Laguna Niguel, CA 92607-0590 Attn: RFE I'm leaning towards sending it to the last address because that was what was included with the RFE. So, I guess they want us to send it to that one. But, what if we want to overnight the package. Can we do that with a P.O. box. And what we will be sending is the medical exam....will the sealed envelope be too big for a P.O. box. Usually I think it's best to send stuff right to the service center and have someone sign for it. So, what is the best thing to do? Any suggestions from people who have mailed things to the California Service Center before? Thanks for your help.
  6. So, my husband called around and found a Chinese civil surgeon down in Maryland. They actually have an appointment available for this Monday, Christmas Eve. That's pretty amazing that they have anything available so soon, so we're going to forego talking to the congressman, and just get another medical exam done. I think this way seems like less trouble. And they are only charging us 120 dollars for the exam, so that seems like a really good price to me. So, anyway, just wanted to update. If anyone else is in the Pennsylvania Maryland area and needs an appointment really soon, the doctor we're going to is : Dr. Baolang Liao 16220 South Frederick Avenue, Suite 418, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 (301) 926-9088 She is on the list of USCIS approved civil surgeons. They all speak Chinese there too. So, hope that helps.
  7. regarding my husband's missing medical exam, someone on VJ had contacted her congressman and the congressman found it at the National Benefits Center. So, how do I contact my congressman? Which congressman do I contact? I live in Pennsylvania.
  8. yes, we included the supplement for vaccinations. Our RFE specifically says that the state department did not forward my husband's medical exam.
  9. So, after traveling to philly yesterday for the infopass appointment, we finally received the RFE in the mail yesterday. And you know what it was....apparently the state department never forwarded my husband's medical exam from China to the USCIS service center. Basically they lost it. So, now my husband has to go for a new medical exam. It was hard enough trying to book the first appointment. We have until February 28th, so that should be enough time. Has anyone had a good experience with a civil surgeon in the Pennsylvania area? What about any Chinese civil surgeons in the area or even out of the area? Thanks
  10. Hey guys, What is the time limit on when you can send in the requested evidence from an RFE? I talked to a woman on the phone with the USCIS help line thing and she said usually 80 some days. Is that true? Someone else on this site said 30 days. Please help, cuz I'm supposed to be receiving an RFE, but it never got delivered.
  11. ok, i'm taking y'alls advice and I scheduled an infopass appointment in Philadelphia for this Monday. I don't live in California, other wise I would have gone there since that is where my case is being processed. Will they be able to help me at my local uscis office? I hope so, other wise my husband is the crazy type who will fly out to california..haha.
  12. Hey guys, sorry i haven't posted for a while. Well, my husband just checked out his case status and stuff online a week ago. He noticed that they said they were sending us an RFE and that it was sent out December 4th. We hadn't received anything until today, the 12th. Except, all that we received was the certified copy of our marriage certificate and a plain white piece of paper. This was sent from the USCIS in california. It just seems so strange. Is this the "RFE"? because they didn't request anything from us, they just sent us back the copy of the marriage certificate. We called the USCIS number and they said they have to wait til the 19th to put in a request for "non delivery" for the california service center to re send the RFE. Anyway, has anyone else ever experienced this? What does it all mean? Thanks!
  13. Hey, So, my fiance arrived in the U.S. at JFK airport in New York. The immigration people there said that his I-94 from this airport has a work authorization stamped on it. Well, I know my fiance will need to apply for a new work authorization with AOS. My question is, the part on the work authorization form has a question like, "Is this an application for "permission to accept employment" or "renewal of permission to accept employment (attach previous employment authorization document)". So, should I say its a renewal or not?
  14. hey all, So, my fiance and i went to see the civil surgeon about 2 weeks ago. It's a long story, but my fiance had a blood test done to check for natural immunity. Anyway, I thought the civil surgeon said she would mail us the original copy of the vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope and a copy for our records. Well, earlier this week we received our copy of the vaccination supplement, but not the original, which needs to be included with AOS. So, I called the hospital and one of the nurses said that the civil surgeon always mails the original right to the government, and doesn't give it to the patient in a sealed envelope. Does that sound normal to you guys? I assume that the hospital and civil surgeon should know what they're doing because they do this all the time...but I just don't know why they didn't send us the original.
  15. My fiance is coming in a few days on a k-1 visa. He wanted to get advanced parole just in case something would happen back in China and he needed to go back for a time. He doesn't, however, have any specific travel dates, so will it be possible to get advanced parole? If so, what should he fill out on the form when it says when is your trip and stuff? thanks
