chilton747
As long as I have been a member of CFL, I have heard stories about those who have lived in China, are now living in China, and those who think they would like to live in China. I have heard the many down sides to living in China. I would like for the people that live or have lived in China to share the good side(s) of living in China. Link to comment
credzba
I love living in China, even though I only get to be there for short periods of time. What I think you are asking, I think comes down to personal preference.1) Most important, I am with my lao po. 2) I like walking to the markets, and buying things my kids tease me are pets, that we then eat 3) I like riding the buses, my mind set is different than when I drive in america. And no, I'd never consider using the buses in america because the service is abysmal in america.4) I like the crowds of people, when I return to america, I feel like the place is empty. 5) I enjoy riding my bike everywhere we go. I am healthier, and avoiding the cars, taxis, and buses makes me laugh every day. 6) I love the language. When I hear Mandarin, or better Suzhouese my ears feel good. I could be hearing a symphony and not be as happy.7) I enjoy seeing the Chinese people, of course my eyes only see my lao po for women, but all the rest of the people are nice too. 8) I enjoy being a foreigner in China. I like doing something most other people won't or don't. 9) I enjoy learning a new way of life, and watching all the people around me, how they act, and inter-act. 10) I love being with my lao po. (Yes this is here twice, because I'd live on the moon if it meant being with her) Thats my short list. I could probably keep going.oh, did I mention the fire works, pretty much all year round? oh, and the fact that NO ONE wears shoes in my house.and food is good and cheap. I best stop, I am going to check when my flight is Link to comment

jim_julian
I love the way the extended family treats each other and me. They are very very close ... all 30 or 40 of them. After they were convinced Lao Po and I loved each other and were really going to marry they just couldn't do enough for me. Link to comment
SmilingAsia
I will not bring an American man to live in China permanently though I can handle his visa very easily and I feel comfortable staying in Guangzhou.1. Whenever a man of a different color, race is walking down the street, hookers always run after him. You'd be very busy to spend the rest of your life driving away hookers from him. 2. Men are men. The temptation is too much in China. I've seen two gals at CFL, the marriage ended in disaster after the wife brought the husband to China. 3. If you are not as pretty as Miss Hong Kong or Miss Asia, it's a bad idea to date any foreigner (poor or rich) in China. You will always see young pretty women who try to approach your man. Gals, don't waste your time or life. Link to comment

Gals, don't waste your time or life. These are the very reasons that Haihua is hesitant about me living in China. Haihua warned me about all the hookers a long time ago. I told her it was impossible for me to be with another woman. I know all men aren't the same but to me a promise is a promise. Is this the only reason you wouldn't bring an American man to China to live? Link to comment
tonado
Spending power is great in China if you have US dollars and don't need to work. Link to comment

I have heard the many down sides to living in China. I would like for the people that live or have lived in China to share the good side(s) of living in China.Really I think theres nothing good about FULL TIME LIVING in China, but its a wonderful place to visit and explore.I expect I will spend a lot of time in China in the future, maybe even buy a small house, but unless I open a billion dollar manufacturing company in China,Im not going to plant any roots here. I believe its best to base myself in America. If you spend lots of time in these foreign countries you can rapidly grow old.The years fly by quickly. My fiance has just completed building her house (8 bed rooms/6 western toilets/1 chinese toilet) and thinks maybe in the future to operate a Guesthouse. She has experience in this and enjoys it,but she knows its a lot of work for a little money.(If anybody's interested in renting this NEW,CLEAN,UNUSED,VIRGIN TOILETS house,in a village next to the JingHong airport, well make you a GREAT deal,PM me)Even though its a good idea to keep this NEW house for her and her family to use in the future, she's already talking about selling the house in a couple of years and planting firm roots in America. jbray
I think a lot depends on how you are making your living in China.... I was teaching and doing websites for people... So, here's part of my list... 1. Very easy, layed back lifestyle. I could do most of my work on my laptop from a coffee/tea house. 2. I felt totally free. Here (atlanta), I am tied to my computer and blackberry. 3. My wife and I could get on our bicycles, ride in any direction for several hours and be in a beautiful little town. 4. We could travel very cheaply to endless exotic locations. 5. Everything was new and interesting. I could go on and on... Link to comment
izus
first off...no matter where you live its all about your attitude. you can be depressed anywhere in this world it dont matter where you live. Eunice i dont care how hot a woman is that approaches me and tries to charm or seduce me or whatever...and there were some in beijing clubs that tried that right in front of ChunYan. SO was amazing and literally laughed in the whores face. i felt so proud of my girl Link to comment
jbray
Ha! Actually, when we would walk in area's where there were "ladies of the evening", my wife would walk behind me so she could see what the women would do... It was funny to her... In Thailand, when the bar girls would call out, "Helloooooohhh", my wife would answer back the same. Yeah, there are a lot of prostitues in certian areas, but just don't go there... Stay away from the pink lights!!! They don't really cut hair!!! There are good things about living in China, and there are bad things. After 3 years of living there, I was bored. But, after a month of living in Atlanta, I was bored... Where was I more happy? Probably China... In China, I was broke, but happy. In Atlanta, I am rich but bored. It looks like we might move to Hong Kong this winter, so maybe we can be both (rich and happy, or broke and bored).... Link to comment
chilton747
LOLLLLLLLL.................jbray, I hear what you are saying about Atlanta. Thanks for everyone's input on this. China can't be that bad for a place to hand the hat. Link to comment
