why i dont have A number on my visa. I am IR1 visa, on my visa, there is only IV case number, registration number and passport number.

I got three # on my CR1 Visa as Paula does.

When I later in Houston got my welcome letter, there were two important numbers: 1. Receipt#(or Tracking #) WAC-07-001-XXXXX. 2. Alien Registration #: A0xx-xxx-xxx, the "xx-xxx-xxx" in Alien Registration # is exactly same as the Registration Number on my CR1 Visa.

So I suppose for CR1, at least the Registration Number assigned on your Visa is the Alien Registration Number (or so called "A" number). Correct me please!

I think I'm finally able to update the FAQ on this elusive issue of "A" number for the CR1 & IR1 ..could never figure them out.

Here is a recap as in the FAQ:

- For K1 and K3, the I-797, NOA2, will contain the ¡°A¡± number (Alien Registration Number)

- For K2 and K4, there is not an ¡°A¡± number assigned in the visa process since these are derivative status classifications.

- For CR1, the ¡°A¡± number should be on the visa.

- For IR1, the ¡°A¡± number will arrive as part of the welcome letter.

For children, I only have a note for K2 and K4.. anyone can comment on when they get it? Or when CR2, IR2 ?

My wife is a CR1, and their was no A number on her visa. We first received her A number on the "Welcome to the U.S." letter she recieved about 3 weeks after she entered the country on Nov. 12th of this year. It was also on her I-551, the "green card", that we received at the same date, but it is definitely not on her visa, and these letters were the first time we ever saw it.

Ditto.........The first time I ever saw an A# was on the "Welcome" Letter and Green Card. Oh Yeah, this was a CR1, I-130 only.

Could you please check out the the Registration Number on your wife's Visa, it's right under IV Case Number(GUZ number), see if the 8 digits number(xxxxxxxx) is same as the A number( A0xxxxxxxx) on your wife's welcome letter.

If yours are not the case, so mines is just a rare coincidence. Then the answer will be more clearer. Thanks!
