ADVANCED PAROLE QUESTION

What is the time frame involved between when you submit your request to change status to permanant resident and when it is approved? This is what will help me determine if we need to do the advanced parole thing.

 

Also, if I do not file for advanced parole at the time I file to change his status and then later need it, can I file it later?

Here is our advance parole experience thus far.

 

Leaving the country was smooth although Lao Po was subject to special security concerns and searches at every turn. One of our checked bags was even opened.

 

The I-94 is taken by the ticket agent as you walk on board the flight that departs the US. No departure stamp for the Chinese passport.

 

I'll file a complete report on our return.

If you want to definitely travel, get the AP. Greencards are being held up frequently these days for an "FBI background check". If you can wait until whenever the green card comes, then you don't need the AP. We probably will renew the EAD, but not the AP, if the green card doesn't come by January.

 

Yes, I believe you can file for AP at any time (after the I-485).
