Consulate and forms issue

Recommended Posts

Recently a member related two issues:

1) The consulate would not accept the electronically filled in form and required them to be hand-written instead...

Can you clarify the acceptable methods for the forms, considering the medical staff accepted it but not the consulate? (or this is possibly because one form was hand carried to the interview and not included in the sealed envelope).

2) One consulate worker stated a K2 only needed a DS-156, then later in the interview day process was told they also needed a DS-156K. This K2 was under 16 years old.

--a. Can you clarify exactly what forms a K2 under 16 years old needs to provide ?

--b. Does a k2 over 16 have any additional forms?

Before the interview, a Visa technician admonished Lan for not using the P4 forms she received in the mail and directed her to re-do each of them by hand. Each of every form we completed electronically was identical to the forms she received in the mail, but nevertheless were not accepted. Another visa technician may have accepted them, there is just no way of knowing.

Also, Lan was directed at the pre-interview medical meeting that she needed the DS-156, and DS-157 for her daughter.

Because of the late hour, these completed forms were not included in the package sealed by the medical personnel, so Lan hand-carried these completed forms with her to the interview.

When she arrived one official told her that she only needed the DS-156 for her daughter, but later the official the opened her packet directed her to re-do all electronically completed forms by hand, and include a copy of the DS-156k for her daughter.?

Dear CFL,

In reply to your questions:

1. Any forms that have been downloaded from our website (or, as appropriate, from the USCIS website) and filled out electronically are acceptable, as long as any required signatures and notarizations are original. We’ll remind our associates of this policy; thanks for bringing it to our attention. Hopefully it was a one-time misunderstanding.

2. Our website’s K1 Fiance Visa FAQ has a list of forms included in the Appointment Packet. You can access this FAQ at http://guangzhou.usconsulate.gov/kvfaq.html.

To answer your questions directly, though:

a. A K2 under 16 needs to fill out two copies of the DS-156, a DS-156K, and of course, the required medical exam, notarized birth certificates, etc. DS-156 and DS-156K forms always go together.

DS-157 and GIV-24 forms are required for all K1 / K2 applicants who are 16 years of age or older. Only the K1 has to fill out the GNI-2 form and the “Certification of Legal Capacity and Intent to Marry.”

b. A K2 over 16, then, would additionally have to fill out a DS-157 and a GIV-24 form.

We hope this helps clear things up!

Sincerely,

USCONGUZ
