I only have 12 business days untill the flight. I researched all morning,,it doesn't seem quite possible. Even If I drove to DC,,after obtaining the passport, there is still the matter of the Chinese tourist visa.

I, dunno where you're located but in two full business days in DC, you can have a passport and a Visa. Both will be expensive but quite doable if you can be in DC.

Actually you can overnight a passport application to an expediting agency the day before you get to DC, asking them to allow you to pick it up at close of business or deliver to your hotel.

Then have an agency hand carry your passport, visa application and fee to the Chinese Embassy the next day. This plan has you arriving at the end of one business day and leaving at the end of the second day.

There may even be an agency in DC that will handle both for you. Overnight them what they need tomorrow and have everything back by Tuesday.

These guys will do it for less than $300 altogether.

Using the link in Pushbrk reply, it costs me $460 less some change. But supposedly, I'll have a new passport no later than early next week. Yes, if I had not given the USPS all of last week, and today, it could have been a little less.

If I had gone through my local State Senators office, I could have spared the expense of the passport service. I would then still have to had come up with the Chinese visa. If wishes were fishes, there would be a whole ocean full :mobrun:

In my original post, I had been trying to contact only Federal Government agencies. I had not been able to get the post offices that have passport acceptance agents, to answer the phone. The dept of State even blew me off. I wonder how long this process will take when the Department of Homeland Security is made aware of how many passports are being lost??? And believe me,it is my mission in life to cause as much disturbance in this fouled up system as possible. How can an Agency named "Homeland Security " not be concerned the US Postal Service Loses valid Passports??? Maybe there should be reform in how Passports are sent through the postal service to the different places they need to be sent to??? <_<

Feel free to run with this subject :)

Thanks Mike. It just so happens, instead of a herd wild horses, it was a pack of ponies that snuck up behind me. Get it,,Pony Express, US Postal Service  I know it could have been a little less expensive, but I had to give the Ponies a chance to make amends.

By the way, congrats on the p4  I'm not usually such an A--hole, this process has gone a long way for jading my memory, my judgement. If the powers that be decide my wife and I are for real, it will only be right at two years since we met. 1.5 going through this insanity the government calls "Immigrations"

Good Luck to all :mobrun:

After being missing in action for two weeks, downloading the many forms, and paying a service $460 yesterday. The post office miraculously found it this morning :D

I had said all along that as soon as I took action to obtain a new passport, this one would show up.

End result , several more grey hairs, and pretty much no harm, no foul. :P :sosad:

You only mention the passport earlier. Did the agency also obtain the China visa for you?

Yes, it would have obtained the visa also, everything. All the fees for everyone was included in the $460 amount, even postages. I had everything ready to take to the court house this morning when the phone rang. Thankfully the Service will refund the money. I believe their end with some postage was around $290. This included the fees for the visa at the Consulate. Then another $30 for the acceptance agent, and $127 for the Dept of State. Then another $20 or so for the postage of the package to get to DC.

As I said,,I got out with only 2 weeks worth of stress payed. The passport was being returned from the Travel agency I use to acquire my visa's. I had already paid for the visa. It got to the distribution center , then never made it to my post office.

Now that I think about it, I believe the service in the link Pushbrk left, would have actually profited around $160 for obtaining the passport, then hand carrying it to the Chinese consulate.

All things considering a win win situation for both parties. I 'm sure some of that would go to overhead on their side. I would recommend them to anyone. They were very helpful over the phone. They also didn't mind refunding to my credit card. As I had said, I had not actually gone to the acceptance agent yet.
