It would be helpful if you would provide the date in March that your case was forwarded. Some March DHL packages from NVC are still in Customs. If yours is one of those, the paper file is not yet in the Consulate. The name check cannot begin on a CR1 case without the physical file on hand.

Either way, I don't see any reason for concern at this point.

If your case is "loaded" it's a good sign. Nothing much more you can do but wait.

I am a bit confused. Can a case be "loaded" but still be in customs? My case is loaded, but DHL said (after an investigation) that it is still being held up in customs.

Loaded means they have the electronic file.

"Open" is the next status and means they have the physical file.

However, I must caution you about being so certain which day's package contains your petition. The date DOS gave me for my package leaving NVC was one day after yours. Somehow, my case shows as OPEN and P3 was received a week ago.

That said, it is common for I-730 packages from NVC to GUZ to be held in customs from 4 to 8 weeks. This is not a DHL or Customs problem. It is due to the process GUZ uses in clearing them.

there are three terms used by DOS...

Loaded

Open

In Que

Loaded means the electronic file has been sent to the consulate

Open, means that GUZ has acknowledged receipt of the hard copy file

In Que, means the interview date has been sent.

I have heard of cases being "Loaded" before arriving physically to GUZ. I deffinitly read it in an old post the other day. I just wish I remembered which one it was.

I posted the suspicion that my case was loaded and P3 sent BEFORE the case file was present in the Consulate. However, I cannot be certain of this. The only way this could be possible is if my case file was in a shipment several days earlier than indicated by NVC or DOS.

My case is K3, not CR1 like March, who is asking the question in this thread. CR1 cases must have physical file before name check begins.

Okay, thanks. I thought loaded meant more than it actually did.

I am pretty confident that my package is still at customs. I did find the date of shipment from DOS, and then the tracking number using that date. I called DHL, and they launched an investigation.  I never geve them the tracking number, only my name, and they found the package that way. The result of the investigation was that the packet is still at customs, and there is nothing DHL could do about it. Plus, my SO has not received the P3 yet.

I'm not going to stress about this for at least another 2 weeks.  Then...

Oh, that's interesting. So, you can call DHL and give them your name and what else? I've been under the impression that a "shipment" with X number of pieces was that number of case files. If so, then your name is on the outside of the "piece".

Is that the impression you have?

Althought the namecheck could already be started.. you can ask updates on that... it's not like nothing is going on in your K1 case, most likely...

But your right to give it a few weeks to check again about it being entered in the computer...

Mike, that is absolutely the impression I had. All I gave them was my name, date of shipping and the point of origin. They never asked for the tracking number or any other information. I thought it was odd, but they had no problem finding the package with just those three items of information.

Maybe DOS has some identifying information on the outside of the package that allowed DHL to track it.

NEWS FLASH!!

After typing what is below, I checked the DHL tracking site and found that all the packages from NVC shipped between April 7 and April 19 were signed for by STAMP today. Hopefully they'll work them this Saturday.

====================================================

I don't mean to be pedantic here but this is still not clear. You were neither the shipper or the recipient, so you it would seem they had more information like the name of the shipper, the term I-730, the actual recipient or perhaps you mean by "point of origin" NVC, not simply Portsmouth NH.

If they looked for a shipment from NVC on that date, they didn't connect your name to the shipment.

If they looked for a shipment from Portsmouth NH on a date, with the only reference being your name, then that's another animal. It also makes no sense BECAUSE you were neither the shipper or recipient of the package.

Until recently, when most of us tracked our package, we picked date and a date range and used the reference "I-730". This would bring up all shipments with I-730 as reference but the only shipper was NVC. We would then find the ones going to GUZ. Recently I've been adding the destination point "CAN" so that I only see a list of I-730 shipments to GUZ. Still, the only shipper is NVC.

Going full circle, if you told them the shipment was FROM NVC, it is unlikely your name meant anything to them. That said, since you don't have your P3 and your case is loaded but not open, your package probably was still in customs until today. HOORAY!

According to the DHL website, the last March shipment from NVC to GUZ (March 29, 24 pieces), was delivered to GUZ on 5/31, so in theory, GUZ has all of the March NVC shipments now, as well as April shipments through April 19, 2006.

The best time to check the status of NVC shipments is on Monday morning from DOS. GUZ staff often works Saturdays to process these shipments....
