tonymasiello
Quan told me that her favorite writer is Zhang Ai Lin. She used to have a collection of her works, but they were lost some years ago when she went away to university. I'm looking to replace these for her. I found this on yesasia.com. http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-...e-c/version-tw/ I'm wondering if someone might be able to tell me if this is a good collection of her work, and worth purchasing... Any other vendors out there besides yesasia? BTW, I am trying to do this as a surprise! Thanks in advance for any help or advice! Link to comment
Joanne
It seems to be the complete collection. However, all works are in traditional Chinese characters. Don't know if this is not desirable to her. Link to comment
Joanne
Another set published by Haerbin Publishing House: http://www.joyo.com/book/detail.asp?prodid...g&ref=%2Fsearch The only problem would be how you are going to get it. Another identical set from Ebay for 150RMB:http://cgi.ebay.com.cn/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...QfsooZ1QQfsopZ3 If you are interested, I can help you ask if they can do international shipping. tonymasiello
Joanne, Thanks so much for the information. I sent you a PM. Would there be a version in simplified Chinese also? I'll have to find out if the traditional is what she would want. Link to comment
tonymasiello
Seems that traditional Chinese is okay. Quan told me that she did read books from HK that were traditional. Link to comment
Dan R
Getting books has been a problem. Choices are a bit limited. Yesasia is a good one. She is waiting for a book to arrive. The DVDs arrived faster. Also trying http://www.ChineseBookOnline.com. Expecting the book from them today or monday. Link to comment
rosyanne
I love Zhang Ai Lin as well. Bought her collection on street...huge discount! They have too many versions nowadays. The cheapest and best way will be have her friend mail her a set from China. The one on ebay looks good BTW. Link to comment
tonymasiello
Thank you all, esp Joanne! I received an email from the Ebay seller, and he/she is looking into the shipping cost for me. His/Her english seems good enough that we have a chance to get this done. I know Quan could easily buy this herself, but she never would. She didn't bring any of her Chinese books here. We saw a single volume of Zhang Ai Lin in a bookstore at the asian market here, and Quan's eyes lit up when she picked it up and looked through it. One of the first things she shared with me when we started to write to each other was her love for this author. I would really like to surprise her with them if I can. Link to comment

She/he didn't know how to get paid and was worried about shipping procedure. I think you would have to take more initiative to get this done. Remember, the seller usually only do local business. So this would be extra effort. Link to comment
Dan R
Go online to http://www.soyodo.com. It is a new Chinese (possibly gov run) book store opening large book stores in the San Gabriel Valley in California. Two stores opened already, one opening and three more planned. The prices are the same as in China just converted to dollars. So you will be surprised by 2-3 dollar prices. The whole site is in Chinese so have your wives check it out. Chinese here (L.A.) think it is government sponsored to keep close relation and stop the drift of loyalty that expatriots experience. Whatever the affiliation or purpose it is the first large scale Chinese book source in the U.S.. Link to comment
tonymasiello
Just wanted to say thanks again to the CFL'ers that helped out with this. The books arrived last Thurs, just in time for me to give them to Quan for her birthday over the weekend. She was thrilled and very surprised to have them again after so many years!!! Link to comment
