cynthialee
Hi, anyone knows whether it would take shorter time to apply and file the CR1 application inside China? I read on some website it's called DCF visa which might take much shorter time. But also some cases showed it might take 7-12 months as well. So I'm really confusing now. What's gonna take shorter, K1 or the DCF? My boyfriend is planning to visit soon to register marriage and process the DCF visa which seems take shorter time but needs him to sacrifice much and I really wish to reduce it to the least as possible. I would really appreciated so much if anyone may give me some advice! Thanks in advanced! Link to comment
mercator
K-1 is for a fiancee' and is often the quickest. CR-1 is for a spouse. CR-1 is often the longest, but is less time when DCF. DCF generally is less time than stateside filing, but as with any of the timelines, we can only average. It's a roll of the dice regardless of the method. If I had met the criteria to DCF, I would have done so. You can't just go visit China and DCF. You have to be roughly equivalent to a green card holder in China to be eligible. GUZ is among the most restrictive on DCF filings because of their huge workload. Basically your SO has to be there working or studying for months before being eligible. Edited November 30, 2005 by mercator (see edit history) Link to comment
mercator
Thanks for the clarification. I asked via a "teach in China" resource and they told me it would take months. I am sure the green card, like anything else, has different timelines for different purposes. Link to comment

beijingjenny
It's not really the same as the "green card". You need a residence permit (now a sticker in the passport), however you can get that. And 7-12 months still is pretty good. On average I would say it can be 7 or 8 months from filing the petition to interview date. Good luck. Link to comment
