Vaccinations

Yanfei has told me she has had vaccinations of some sort but that she has no records at all in her possesion...great... What vaccinations are required? I have about 11 days to file the I-485 and this comes up. Sheesh...I am sure it will cost an arm and a leg. No sense going to the civil surgeon until this is done, am I right?

If you look at the Technical instructions, there is a table showing what is required: She should need three:

1) Tetanus - either via your doctor or CS

2) MMR - either via your doctor or CS; some CSs want both courses done. Second course must be at least 28 days later than first.

3) Varciella (chicken pox) - If she has had this, but you have no proof, the CS might accept the scar on her arm, or request a blood test to prove it (which my CS did).

 

The trick is going to be finding/convincing a CS you only need the vaccination supplement and not a physical. You might have to call a few before you find one.

 

You can do either:

1) Go to the CS, ask him what he wants her to have and let him give her the shots. Only delay will be if he requires second course of MMR..

 

2) Take a calculated gamble, which some have been able to do in regards to the CS: get the Tetanus and MMR from your primary care doctor's office.. then go to a CS and see if he will sign off on just this.

 

Some have reported the CS to accept the scar (or just her word); and some report that the second MMR was not asked for by the CS...

Same thing happened to me.

We went to a community health center. Saved about $240 on vaccinations. Got the 4 we thought they'd need. Included Hep B, later found out not needed, but wanted it any way due to high Hep B in China.

Called around and finally found a CS who would sign off without giving a physical. I'm reporting one for extortion as she would not do without physical.

If you show the papers from the I-485 form, stating they do not need it, they have to skip physical - I could tell doctor didn't like that I knew the regs, as a friend a month earlier had to pay for the physical (over $400 here in Alaska).

Don't need all the shots. Just ones for age group.
