Quick question

Recommended Posts

First, let me say thanks to everyone here for the invaluable resource this site has been.

I do have a quick question though.

Does getting in early in the line on the morning of the interview puts you further ahead to being inteviewed?

Because I just read the October interview thread by amerchin, and in it, the interviewee have at least 200 people ahead of her and yet she is the 37th person interviewed. So is it strictly first-come first-serve? Or is it already planned ahead of time who will be interviewed when?

the reason i asked is because my wife is pregnant and if it doesn't matter that much anyway, I might as well have her sleep a bit more and not have her on her feet waiting in line.

Thanks for your help!

It's true that it's not a first come first served but don't go too much later. My SO noticed that before she went in that there was about another 100 people in line after her. Not as many people are going in for the immigrant visa but there is an 8 am group right behind the 7:15. Someone from the 8am group asked her how she got the number. Like I stated on my first email they called by name first and she was the 10th one up for the fingerprinting. She was then issued the number 1021. Some people who took their fingerprints after her was interviewed before her. She was the 37th one to be interviewed.

Is there any rhyme or reason? My guess and it's only a guess is that the VO's have a stack of cases. It's a matter of luck where your case is located in that pile. If your VO doesn't have any problem cases then your waiting time will be shorter. If he/she does have difficult cases then that will determine your waiting time there. By luck if your case is at the bottom then, well.......?

I think we went to get in line about 30 minutes prior... as my link states, although she was one of the last to get the fingerprints done, she was one of the first to get an interview and done by 10:00am...

If standing is an issue for her pregnant state.. offer to stand in line as she sits somewhere if needed... You should know by now the constant concern to give someone a seat to rest... :D

When we were there for our interview, an American man walked to the front of the line past everyone followed by a very obviously pregnant woman. They let both of them through. My assumption is he was allowed in with her, although I have no evidence for this (They walked through all the lines I could see until entering the building).

This was when you still picked up the visa the next day. The next day, he came by himself at the appointed time, and picked up the paper work without her (I saw him arrive then leave with the package). Perhaps there are exceptions made for this kind of case that you can ask about?
